Leonard Back to Morrow

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 5/7/2001

But back to literature. Slyly hard-boiled star author Elmore Leonard is taking his act back to Morrow, which used to publish him years ago, but is now part of HarperCollins. In the intervening time he's been a Dell/Delacorte regular, but all that will change under a huge deal worked out by Harper executive editor Marjorie Braman with Leonard's agent Andrew Wylie, in association with Michael Siegel.Under it, the house has bought hardcover rights to the next three novels, plus mass market rights to 26 backlist books previously done by Dell, as well as paperback rights to his latest, Pagan Babies. With the 10 titles Harper already owned, this means that Leonard's entire oeuvre, book and audio, will be Harper's to exploit. No details yet on the new titles, which Braman will edit along with Jackie Farber, his former Delacorte editor, who will be brought in to give an outside assist.
