Left Behind on the Speedway

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/5/2001

The very, very successful Left Behind series (the books dominate our religion fiction list) has found what may be a unique ploy to build even more awareness, specifically with car-racing fans. The site sponsored a car in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Florida Dodge Dealers 400K on March 4. The driver, Randy MacDonald, has said that his wife has read all eight books in the series and that he listens to the audios. Tyndale reports total sales for the thrillers by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins to be more than 36 million, and noted that this is the first time a Web site for a series of evangelical novels has sponsored a truck at a NASCAR event. We think it's the first time any novel was a NASCAR sponsor.
