Print Ahead for FBI Spy

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 3/5/2001

A couple of books have already been signed on Robert Philip Hanssen, the FBI spy for the Russians whose story emerged last month. Geoff Shandler at Little, Brown has signed a pair of reporters from Time magazine's Washington bureau, Elaine Shannon (who has been covering the FBI for 20 years and has deep sources there) and Ann Blackman, to write a book that will be called The Three Worlds of Dr. Death: Robert Hanssen and the FBI's Most Dangerous Spy Scandal Ever. The world rights deal was made with agent Todd Shuster at Zachary & Shuster, and the publisher naturally hopes to publish as soon as possible. Also on a fast track is a book signed by executive editor Charles Spicer at St. Martin's, also for world rights. The Spy Who Stayed Out in the Cold will be by Adrian Havill, author of books on the O.J. Simpson case and Woodward and Bernstein of Watergate fame, and was signed with agent Jane Dystel.
