Hobar Publications Buys Windward

by Brad Zellar -- Publishers Weekly, 3/19/2001

Minneapolis's Hobar Publications has acquired Windward Publishing of Miami, Fla. Hobar, a division of the Finney Company, is a publisher and distributor of educational materials, specializing in agricultural publications.

Company president Al Krysan said he hopes the acquisition of Sandra Romashko's Windward catalogue will allow Hobar to expand into the trade market. Windward publishes books on nature and aquatic sports; its bestselling title, The Shell Book, has 335,000 copies in print.

"We'd been looking for something that would allow us to branch out a bit," Krysan said. "Windward's specialties are a little bit of a departure for us, and at the same time a good fit." With the deal, Hobar acquires 40 titles, and Krysan said his company will consolidate operations out of the Minneapolis headquarters."
