Biblical Story from POD to SMP Deal
PW Rights Alert Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 5/11/2001
A Biblical first novel originally published by Xlibris as a print-on-demand
title that sold a few hundred copies has been bought by St. Martin's Press
editor Diane Higgins as part of a two-book deal.
It is "Queenmaker" by India Edghill, which Higgins says is the first such
novel since Anita Diamant's "The Red Tent," which she published in
paperback, to have struck her as a worthy successor to that bestselling
title. It tells the story of King David and his wife Michal, and is told
from her point of view, centering on the relationships among women in the
royal court. Edghill, who is a librarian, spent five years researching the
book.
Higgins bought North American, first serial and audio, and will publish
next January.
