Worst Mine Disaster in U.S.

A fire deep underground in a silver mine in Kellogg, Idaho, in 1972, killed 91 miners; two men were miraculously found alive seven days later by rescue teams. The story, the latest in a series of national disasters revisited in narrative fiction vein, will be told by author Gregg Olsen (Confessions of an American Black Widow) in a book just preempted by senior editor Emily Loose at Crown. She bought world English rights for six figures in a deal conducted by agent Susan Raihofer at the David Black agency. The plan is to publish The Day the Men Died in the fall of 2003.
