Wiley Wins Le Cirque Tale

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 6/11/2001

A book called Circus Master, a portrait of top-echelon New York restaurateur Sirio Maccioni and his ultra-chic Le Cirque 2000, was purchased at auction by Wiley's senior culinary editor, Pamela Chirls. She paid six figures to win the book from agent Cullen Stanley at Janklow & Nesbit and plans to publish in fall of next year. The book, which will be written with Bloomberg food and wine writer Peter Elliott, will tell the story of Maccioni's rise to preeminence in the cutthroat Manhattan restaurant world, and how he stays at the top. It will also offer views of some of Maccioni's celebrated clientele and Elliott's take, as a professional critic, on his accomplishment.
