P Is for Putnam

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 6/18/2001

Sue Grafton's 16th Kinsey Millhone, P Is for Peril, is Putnam's first in the bestselling alphabet mystery series and the publisher gets an E for excellent effort, having landed the author in the #1 slot after just a week in the stores. It's not an unknown achievement for Grafton—her former publisher, Holt, often managed to get her books into the top spot in their first appearances on the list. Putnam's first printing was 630,000 copies. The house launched the book with a national television and print advertising campaign as well as an 18-city national book-signing and publicity tour. That was kicked off on laydown date, June 4, with an appearance on the Today Show. So far, all of Grafton's events have drawn hundreds of loyal fans and she will be on the road through the end of the month.
