More Bubbly for Zadie

Zadie Smith's White Teeth lands on PW's trade paperback chart in the #9 slot; last year at about this same time, the hardcover hit our list in the same position. Back then, Random House had about 85,000 copies in print and was crediting independents nationwide with helping make the book fly; now, there are 150,000 copies in print. For the trade paper edition, Vintage has done four printings, for a total of 180,000. Smith will be doing a nine-city tour and Vintage is promoting this book heavily to reading groups.
