Licensing Hotline: Phoning Home Again

Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment have authorized an E.T.: The Extraterrestrial publishing program to coincide with the 20th-anniversary theatrical rerelease of the film in March 2002. Simon & Schuster will republish the original movie novelization (which debuted in 1982) and an original spin-off novel, The Book of the Green Planet (1985), both by William Kotzwinkle. There will also be five new children's titles an updated junior novelization, a movie storybook with images from the redigitized film, a chapter book and two 8 × 8 storybooks, according to Universal's president of publishing rights, Nancy Cushing-Jones. Several European publishers are also on board.
