Vito Laterza

Herbert R. Lottman -- Publishers Weekly, 7/9/2001

Vito Laterza, Italy's best-known social science publisher, died in Rome on May 29 after a long illness. He was 74. Founded in southern Italy with the support of philosopher Benedetto Croce, the Laterza firm moved to Rome in 1960 and in recent years has specialized in encyclopedias in social and cultural history, coproduced with publishers in other languages. Laterza's son Giuseppe is now in charge of the family firm's editorial program.
