Comic Con: Still no Luggage

Posted by Barbara Vey on July 24, 2008
Comic Con James Bond
Daniel Craig wasn't there, but James Bond's car was

I arrived in San Diego late Tuesday night, but my luggage did not.  So my first day at Comic Con was spent in day old clothes.  Ewww.  I did shower though, so that's something anyway.

Since no one is allowed in the convention until 6 p.m., I breezed in on the coat tails of Sherrilyn Kenyon.  She got me an exhibition badge that allowed me into the ginormous hall before the masses decended.  In exchange, I ran errands and helped  s...Read More

Comic Con: Travel DAy

Comic Con
Well, I'm finally in San Diego, arriving late last night.  Where is the hot weather I've been promised?  I still had to wear a sweater!

Anyway, I stopped in Denver to change planes and met two avid readers who are friends, but never said one word throughout their meal, just read their books.  My kind of people.   Andrea Fuller loves nonfiction and  Lani Spicer loves fantasy.  So, after I made author suggestions, I found out they were cancelling all the rest of the flights to San Diego...Read More

Riding with the Harley Dogs: One Author’s Adventure

The Accidental Demon Slayer
I'm on my way to Comic Con in San Diego, but I'm proud to pass the blog torch to an amazing author who manages to mix Harley's, dogs, biker witches and demon slayers.  Congratulations and deepest thanks to Angie Fox for her winning bid to Brenda Novak's Diabetes Auction.  Now the one and only guest blogger ever on Beyond Her Book...(drum roll please)...Angie Fox.

Richard Dean Anderson
Ok, Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver, Stargate) will be at Comic Con sans mullet, but I'll be stalking asking him to do a Drive By Video with me.

This is the last blog before I leave for my 3 weeks of travel covering Comic Con&n...Read More

Bad Hair - Your Turn Friday

Posted by Barbara Vey on July 18, 2008

Ok, maybe not quite like this, but actually worse, if you can imagine.  Blah!!

I'm usually the most easy going person when it comes to my hair.  Just cut it so it stays out of my eyes and cover the gray.  The woman I normally go to was on vacation and has been booked solid for a while, so I broke down and went to a new place.  She colored my hair gray!  Who the heck dyes anyone gray?  Isn't the idea to get rid of the gray?  I look a hundred and that makes me feel one hundr...Read More

Drive By Videos: Now filming at the BK Lounge

James Rollins channels Indiana Jones
Author James Rollins was asked to do the novelization of  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  Methinks he tends to really get into his characters.

You know, I don't wake up every morning thinking, "Who can I suck into my blog today?"  But sometimes the stars just line up right.  So, when I heard that James Rollins was passing through Milwaukee, I sent out a few emails an...Read More

WW Ladies Book Blurbs

Hot Property by Carly Phillips
Don't you just love picking up your mail after being gone for a week?  After throwing away the junk mail, I was left with a summons for jury duty.  Great.  It falls during RWA, so I went online and asked to change the date.  I've done jury duty before and liked it (we sent him up the river), so I look forward to the blog fodder I'll get from a trial.  I wonder if they'll let me do Drive By Videos there.

But now, the moment you've been waiting for...here's the WW Ladies with their reads of the week.

Final Thoughts on ThrillerFest

Larry and Kat Martin

Authors Larry and Kat Martin snuggle up

I have to say that ThrillerFest was one of the classiest conferences I've ever been to (but keep in mind that I'm just off the Romantic Times Booklovers convention).  No faery balls here (not that there's anything wrong with that).   If you haven't already done so, go back and read ...Read More

Thrillerfest: Awarding the Best

Debut authors at ThrillerFest
Definitely the big day here at ThrillerFest was Saturday.  Breakfast was with the Debut Authors who have all just had their first novels published this year.  They each got a chance to give a short synopsis of their books and I've got to tell you, I want to read them all! (Ok, Lee Childs, on left, is not a debut author, but he did mentor the group)

Hank Phillippi Ryan and Barbara Vey at Thrillerfest
Hank Phillippi Ryan and me after meeting on the elevator

If talk about how soon bugs inhabit a dead body doesn't gross you out, then you wanted to be at the Kathy Reichs talk Friday morning.  Dr. Reichs is a forensic anthropologist who's character, Temperence Brennan, now has her own tv show, Bones.  Kathy admits she has a closet with shelves of bo...Read More

Barbara Vey riding the subway
Me taking the subway for the first time.  I think I was the only one there who thought it was an adventure.

ThrillerFest started early today.  After running to the hotel coffee stand (did I mention there was not coffee maker in the room?), I paid $9.50 for a coffee and a bowl of fruit.  Yikes!  But then off to check out some of the seminars.  ...Read More

Thrillerfest: Obama Style

Posted by Barbara Vey on July 10, 2008

Train pals:  Barbara Spivak, Carol Belbresky and Jane Rose.

Did you ever feel like your life was just one big rollercoaster ride?  You scream with excitement going up, you scream with terror going down and you scream with horror when you go upside down and all the stuff falls out of your pockets.

That's pretty much been my day.  The 7:30 am flight was uneventful and I even managed to get the train from Newark to New York without too much trouble.  I lucked out by sitting with 3 newly re...Read More
