Bologna by Day and Night

Lost... and Found

March 21, 2009

And here we are on Saturday in Bologna. Breezy and cool, but green, and trees flowering.

Our friends from London, Philippa Dickinson and Steve West, who flew down for the day, were at the airport to greet us. And a good thing, too, because although we are here, our luggage is not.

The good thing about creeping senility (my case) or the galloping variety (mother-in-law's) is that things that would have made me nuts in the past no longer seem like such a big deal. (The bags will get here or they won't, though Brussels Air had better a damn good ex--oh, never mind.) I just don't want to have to wear a sandwich board that says, "For your safety, please stand downwind."

We checked into the Palace Hotel where we were greeted with the kind of warm enthusiasm we have come to expect (!). The place was abuzz with activity. Then those guests left.

The atmosphere tonight can be summed up by the following riddle: What is the difference between the tombs of the Pharohs and the Palace? (The Palace is only 500 years old.)

So we have no bags and I seem to have an increasingly tenuous grasp for the names and faces of people I've known for 30 years -- I don't actually FORGET them, they just don't always show up in tandem.

There's more, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Buona notte.

On my last trip to the Fair, my bag spent a lovely, sunny week in Portugal, only to reunite with me at the airport when I was heading home.

I hope yours at least send postcards!

Again with the bags? Didn't yours take a side trip to Paris last year?
