Hot Pig of Children's Literature, First in a Potential Series

October 2, 2007

Let me put it this way.  I've done a lot of Hot Men of Children's Literature posts in my day.  HMOCLs come and HMOCLs go, but one thing stays the same.  There was not a single picture of a single HMOCL on my desk at work... until today.  Yes, here is an actual picture of my workspace right now at this very minute:

And there, front and center, is today's featured fella (sharp-eyed viewers might be able to make a case for a second HMOCL, but that's debatable territory since he's in bunny form).  You can keep you Wilburs, Babes, and Freddies.  Maybe Napoleon from Animal Farm could have made a stab at this fellow's domain, but even if you could get over the whole totalitarian regime thing, that guy's really more a Hot Pig of YA Literature anyway.  Nope, when it comes down to it, give me the one, the only...

PIG!

Unfamiliar with particular porcine rock star?  Then get thee to a library/bookstore and check out Punk Farm.  A book that has inspired an upcoming film, to say nothing of its fan base, the sequel Punk Farm on Tour is just about to come out, potentially rocketing this little piggy into the stratosphere.  Here's his official description on the Punk Farm website:

Pig wields his guitar like a Rock-Ninja.  He’s lost count of the blown speakers that have fallen in his path of destruction.  Though PF’s sound wouldn’t be the same without his strumming, Pig’s overwhelming confidence can sometimes land him in hot water.

On MySpace he identifies his influences as The Ramones, Green Day, and Kiss.  I'm with him on two out of three certainly.  And he's even acquired the occasional obsessed fan along the way, thanks to his all barnyard animal-based networking system PunkFarmSpace.

Some of you may have seen Pig and his compatriots interviewed recently by Cluck Roosterman on Bottom Shelf Books.  Few questions went directly to today's HPOCL, but this one did, and I'd like to republish it here, if I could:

This question is for Pig: An anonymous source in Hollywood told BSB that you were originally chosen to play the lead in School of Rock (a role that eventually went to Jack Black), but that you turned down the part at the last minute. Is this true? And if so, do you regret that decision?

"You know, Hollywood is a rumor-mill. You can’t believe everything you hear. I took a few phone calls and that’s it. Good for Jack Black. I think he’s a brilliant actor and an even more brilliant musician. If I had landed the part, I wouldn’t be in this great band with my best friends, so no regrets."

Ever stoic, even in the face of grave disappointment.
Yes, Pig has it all.  Charm.  Wit.  Millions of pig-related jokes that I'm doing my darndest to avoid mentioning.
Oh.  And, uh, in the interests of full disclosure, I may have been wooed a bit in this particular nomination.
*sigh*

Awesome choice! He's got it all, talent, charisma and looks. Sigh!

Eisha's got it for Goat, but I can see Pig's appeal, too.
