Recommended Reading: You Choose!
August 28, 2007
I realize that my Recommended Reading posts aren't always the easiest ones to comment on (they're not necessarily the easiest ones to read, either -- and hey, they are also not the easiest ones to write!) -- after all, the whole reason I'm posting them is that they're about relatively new books that you may not have read yet. Or even care about.
So with that last thought in mind, I'd thought I'd let you vote on which book I recommend next. I think I've chosen three books that are sufficiently different.
First up,
Engleby by Sebastian Faulks, an irresistible read from the author of
Birdsong and
The Girl at the Lion d'Or; I cannot resist linking to its Wikipedia entry -- was that posted by an overenthusiastic fan, or publicist?:

Next,
The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit by Lucette Lagnado, whose trade paperback blurb after this week might well read "Michiko Loved It!" -- but you will, too, because it's a family memoir that's honest and true
and written by a journalist:
And finally,
Caspian Rain by Gina B. Nahai -- the link is to Louisa Ermelino's recent PW profile of Nahai, whose fourth novel is poised to be her breakout title:
I'm looking forward to tallying your votes... thanks, as always, for reading.
