Blog to the Future: Joe Wikert's Publishing 2020August 15, 2007 I've had quite a few conversations recently about how the Internet is changing the face of the media in general and publishing in particular (and if you're not having those kinds of conversations, you should be... ). Change can be frightening, and there are still many people who feel that the changes they've already seen are for the worst and that those to come will be "worser still."You may call me a Pollyanna (hear that? Bring it, peeps! LOL), but I believe change is not only inevitable, but good. That does not mean it should be allowed to happen unchecked, just that change forces us to evaluate what we're doing and determine whether or not it works. That's why I love Joe Wikert's Publishing 2020 blog. Wikert's "day job" is as VP and Executive Publisher in Wiley's Professional/Trade Division. His subhed for the blog is "A Book Publisher's Future Visions of Print, Online, Video and All Media Formats Not Yet Invented." If it's new, different, and noteworthy publishing change, you'll find an entry from Wikert on it. Check it out, but tell me here, first: what do you think is the most positive change in the publishing industry in the past few years? Posted by Bethanne Patrick on August 15, 2007 | Comments (4)

In response to: Blog to the Future: Joe Wikert's Publishing 2020 MARTY OLVER ARCHER commented: As a publicist, I have to say that one of the most positive changes in publishing in the last few years is the opening up of many, many avenues for publicity for authors and publishers due to advancements in technology and the Internet. I'm talking forums, blogs, talk radio, podcasts, social marketing Websites, author Websites, newsletters, event calendars, email marketing, video trailers and posting sites.
