What's On Your Nightstand?
December 9, 2007

I know I just asked what is on your holiday wish list, but then I took a look at my nightstand and realized it's time for us all to get caught up on what we're actively reading, too.

Unfortunately, that's inaccurate for me. I've been "actively reading" some material for a contest, so I've been neglecting my (as usual) teetering bedside stack of books. Some that have arrived that I am eager to get to when I have time include (NB: some of these are galleys, some ARCs, some finished books):

Meg Wolitzer's The Ten-Year Nap

Jack O'Connell's The Resurrectionist

Jonathan Coe's The Rain Before It Falls

Shirley Abbott's The Future of Love

Andrea di Robilant's Lucia: A Venetian Life in the Age of Napoleon

Denis Johnson's Tree of Smoke (yes, I'm going to take a look at it, in spite of this review I mentioned last Friday)

How about you? Tonight I'll be diving into a couple of books before interviewing their authors. But after that, I swear, I'm cracking the Wolitzer...

Call me sentimental, but since I read new books all year, at Xmas I always reread seasonal favorites like Name Of The Rose and E.F. Benson ghost stories... And speaking of seasonal entertainment, am I the only person driven crazy driven nuts by that 1983 Rodeo Drive rat's-nest hair style that Ralphie's mom wears in A Christmas Story? It completely destroys the late-40's atmosphere...
