LitNotes: All Over But the Shoutin'

We Have No Taste: After hearing the authors on
The Diane Rehm Show I probably wouldn't have picked up
Why We Read What We Read anyway -- but Book/Daddy confirmed my choice to stay away. The PW review said "This effort is larded with data that will be obvious to publishing professionals and of little interest to general readers." While Lisa Adams' and John Heath's conceit of analysing the bestseller lists is cute, it's not enough to tear me away from what's actually on my nightstand.
We Don't Need Real Books: Will
Amazon's Kindle kindle the fires of bibliophilia for anyone? It's just plain ugly in that 2006 photo, and
no one has any new ones. (Have you seen
the iRex thingy? Much more attractive.) However, its wireless technology is a big step up from having to connect to a computer and the Internet to download e-books.
We Read Comics on Our Cell Phones: Now, finally, some real news: "Thunder Road" by Sean Demory is the first comic book released in the U.S. exclusively on a cell phone, part of a lineup of mobile comic books offered by Kansas City-based uClick. Call me a Philistine, but this actually seems cool, exciting, and promising. In fact, I'd like to read a bestselling graphic novel on a Kindle. Right now.
If anyone at Amazon would like me to test-drive a Kindle, or any readers would like to lambast me off-line (lambast away here, in comments, of course), I can be reached at the reading writer at aol dot com... enjoy the weekend, and keep reading -- no matter what title or method you choose!
