LitNotes: Close Encounters
November 9, 2007

Confident Beauty: Nadine Haobsh's new book Beauty Confidential: The No Preaching, No Lies Advice-You'll-Actually-Use Guide to Looking Your Best got a test drive yesterday on The Today Show. I ran into Haobsh, her model, and her publicist in the green room (long story... ), so I can tell you straight up: Haobsh is lovely, with fantastic skin -- a great advert for her own work. She's at work on a novel about the beauty industry which will no doubt draw on her blog, "Jolie in NYC."

Cat Pack: Last night I met up with my online peeps Ron Hogan of Galley Cat, Felicia Sullivan of Collins, and Jennifer Bassett of Writers Revealed. We meant to talk about WR Classics... but the conversation ranged from the new Junot Diaz to immersion blenders to Ms. Bassett's recent engagement. Too bad we were all tired from a long day of work, or I'm sure we could have talked longer. Thanks, guys, for making some time for litchat.

Morning Commute: Today I'll be making my way down to The New School for the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses Literary Writers Conference. What better way to start a Friday than with coffee, listening to a panel consisting of Richard Russo, Gary Fisketjon, and Paul Bogaards?
