BEA 2007 Parties: Morrow at 60 Thompson
June 1, 2007

Oh me. Oh my. Book Expo is kicking The Book Maven's derriere. It's only 1:30 on Friday and already I've been to so many different (overheated) rooms that I'm not sure if that last person I met with and hugged good-bye was an agent, a publicist, or someone from the neartest Tri-State Clown College. But I didn't want to let the day go by without telling you about the lovely party Morrow threw last night at 60 Thompson.

The fete was on the roof, and while by 8:30 the weather was a bit overcast, the breeze was as cool as the vodka mojitos on offer. I didn't get a chance to talk to publisher Michael Morrison (although I've seen him dash by at least three times today on the show floor, so I know he's busy!), but I did chat with ueber-publicists Sharyn Rosenblum and Seale Ballenger (Sharyn is currently working on the delightful anthology Damage Control, and more on that next week when it's time for that party).

Seale was kind enough to introduce me to novelist Joe Hill, who is so much taller than I am (not difficult, but still he's tall!) it was comical for my friend who attempted to take a photo of us together. If you haven't read Hill's Heart-Shaped Box, I highly recommend it.

Morrow knows how to throw a party, and I wish I could have stayed until the end. I really appreciate the publishers who have chosen to have parties a bit later this year, so we all have time to get back and take a break before heading out for more BEA fun. Don't forget to check out Karen Holt's "The Morning After" blog for more party info... again, apologies for the dearth of links, but these press room 'puters are a tad slow... and I've got to share with the rest here. More soon on the panels I've attended, the people I've seen, and the galleys everyone can't wait to read.
