Auden-ary People: Is that what Wystan Hugh Auden wanted to be -- more ordinary? This essay examines his American life and why it might have influenced his later, less readable poetry.
No Sex Please, We're British: Michiko Kakutani may have savaged it, but there are two far more measured (and affirming) reviews of Ian McEwan's On Chesil Beach here (Yardley, WaPo) and here (Hitchens, The Atlantic). And, of course, Jonathan Lethem loved it.
Win-Win for Me?: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie wins The Orange Prize for Half of a Yellow Sun, beating out Kiran Desai. I love Desai, and I'm a little sad that The Inheritance of Loss sustained one, but now I can't wait t read Adichie...
