What's On Your Nightstand?: A Semi-Regular Feature
April 10, 2007

It's that time again -- time for me to share what's on my nightstand, and find out what's on yours. (You didn't think all of my reading choices came from publicists, did you? For shame!) The more I talk to other readers, the more I learn that we all have idiosyncratic ways of "filing" our nightstand reading picks. Some of us have several books going at once. Some of us always read until the end, and others never manage to do so. Some of us (the lucky ones) find a book we can't put down and wish we could neglect work, family, laundry, and even tooth-brushing (but we don't!) in order to keep reading.

Here's what I'm working on right now:

The Wizard of the Crow by Ngugi Wa'Thiong'O

What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman

Grace Eventually by Anne Lamott

Depths by Henning Mankell

How about you? And if you've already finished any or all of the above, I'd love to know what you think.

I have a stack of books waiting on my nightstand in various stages of being read. Reading a great history of the Tet Offensive by Dr, Jim Wilbanks. Trying to get through a clive cussler ( whom I love but, not so much this time.) and there is a lovely well polished empty space awaiting the last Harry Potter installment.

Bookishblondish, are you planning on re-reading any old Harry Potters? Or cramming with 'The Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter VII?'

I'm reading _Cracking The Show_ by Thomas Boswell, a book of his Washington Post columns, circa 1994. Oh well, it's baseball season, right? In addition, I'm working on _Founding Mothers_ by Cokie Roberts.

Fred Hudson, I had a friend in college who loved Confederacy of Dunces so much that she used it as a litmus test -- love it, and you were admitted into her inner circle. Hate it, and you were cast out forever. I have to say, it's not a bad gauge of character. I think Ignatius is captivating. But I'm nervous about the movie...
