The Joy of Text: Swellegant
July 24, 2007
My friend K. (who,
no matter what GalleyCat says, invented the bookswap for this provincially bound Book Maven) is always digging up little gems for my blog, for which she has my eternal gratitude and free rein to borrow any and as many books from my library as possible.
Last week she pointed out
this post on Styledash, with her own comment: "After all, being well read
is very stylish." Brava, Styledash, for showing us Kate Spade's eminently stylish and very clever downloadable book covers;
the three different wallpaper-style downloads (strewn with vintage book jackets, including novels, plays, photo books, and more) can be used to both protect your beach reads from the elements and conceal them from prying eyes. The rattiest summer house mass-market paperback will gain new life and cachet covered with one of them -- plus your inner schoolchild can delight in the simple origami of covering a book.
However, my favorite thing on Ms. Spade's site is
her own purported summer reading shelf (Dear Kate, I won't be surprised or shocked to find you toting a fat vintage Judith Krantz in your vintage straw tote).I've read nine of the fourteen selections and I'd say replace
After Dark with
Kafka on the Shore. Based on your own reading, what would you add/substitute/delete from Kate Spade's list?
