Thursday's Child Has Far To Go
October 11, 2007
How many of you have
Library Thing shelves already? Or
Shelfari widgets? I have both; I love filling up virtual bookshelves with all of the volumes I've read and wanted to read, especially because I can put back all the books I've had to give away over the years to make room for new ones...
I became temporarily addicted to a Facebook application called Visual Bookshelf a couple of months ago (yes, I have a Facebook page and no, I am not ashamed; it's already helped me out professionally!) because they had a photo "leader board" of people with the largest number of books on their shelves. I was determined to be on that board, and I spent the better part of a weekend adding in every book I can remember reading onto Visual Bookshelf. I was thrilled to make it onto the little board...
...and then I was knocked off. Oh, those competitive readers! (Uh... the ones just like me.) There's an always-studying-rabbi, there's the woman who reads every chick lit book printed, there's the thriller addict, there's the eclectic academic who intersperses tomes on government with the latest literary fiction, even an anime and graphic novel enthusiast...
Fantastic! I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who have been on these social-networking sites and bookshelf sites much longer than I have (pointers welcome). The reason I'm talking about them today is that whenever I look at that leader board I remember that no matter how much I've read, discussed, reviewed, and more, I still have a very long way to go in being a well-read person.
With that, my question for today is what would you like to see in this blog that you don't? I can't promise that it will be covered, but I'd at least like to hear from my own "leader board." Thanks for reading... I don't, and can't, say that often enough.
