Recommended Reading: 'The Spellman Files'
March 19, 2007
My review of
this debut novel will be live on Bookreporter.com later this week, and I'll link to it here -- but I'd be remiss if I did not urge you all to welcome spring by clearing off your nightstands and making room for this fresh breeze of a book. It's delightful, it's delicious, it's de real thing: an imperfect narrator who steals your heart, and a wacky premise that believes in itself sincerely. So what if the plotting lags a bit in the middle? Izzy Spellman's prolonged adolescence and employment in her family's private investigation firm will keep you invested in the novel despite its (very small) flaws. Take a look at
its fun Web site, too.
