How Do You Imagine the Bookroom?

March 18, 2008
A giant, fluorescent-lit loft packed with industrial shelving?  A dark, walnutty nook lit at one end by a gracious orange glow that shines gently in from the curtained and cat-laden window-sill?

When the PW Reviews Department began its adventures in blogging last year, we had little idea what to expect--and in some ways, we still don't.

This blog is called Notes from the Bookroom, and what we try to offer, I think, are quick takes on what's come over the transom on any given week, be it a particular book, a small trend, an annoyance about the mechanics of the reviewing process or a happy surprise therein.

The problem--or, in keeping with parlance of the day, the challenge--is that what arrives here from day to day is a huge and variagated load.  And all of us here have very different approaches to it--or to the facets of it that each of us deals with directly.

We've gotten some feedback on this blog, but not enough.  If you're a regular reader, please sound off below and help us finetune.

Strangely enough, I picture you guys operating out of an office sort of like the spaceship in Catwomen In The Moon, (my favorite low budge 50's silly sci fi flick) complete with rolling office chairs and high-school wall lockers... Is there a CO2 fire extinguisher handy in case of a meteor strike?

I've always pictured a cat-laden windowsill.

Not a bookroom at all, a couple of different offices and home offices, meshed together through thin threads of wire and attitude. Good times.

I wish you would do a interview with the authors of PUDDLEJUMPERS. It just came out Apr. 1st, and the background is film directing and writing. My family is loving this book.
