Sometimes Celebrities Read (vol. 1, no. 1)
June 15, 2007

Yes, in a brilliant ploy to increase blog traffic, I'm stooping to shameless celebrity gossip and cruel mockery. Don't worry, though: it's short. And given the subject matter, it's hardly in danger of becoming a frequent feature.

Anyway, today's SCR subject is everyone's favorite adoption junkie, Angelina Jolie! From Gawker:

Clearly having heard of the financial drain recently incurred by McSweeney's, the talented thespian took to the strets of Manhattan yesterday with a copy of Dave Eggers' What is the What? as a show of solidarity. ...Celebrities: They're just like a couple of doofuses in Williamsburg!

No word yet on how far along Angie is in her efforts to gain custody of Valentino Achak Deng, but we all know A-Jo won't rest until he's safely tucked away in her Hollywood home. Everyone get excited -- Deng's going to look awesome in his new mohawk.

Update: Turns out, Jolie is in the book. Yes, the book she's reading. Apparently, she's looking for kids in fictional Africa too. Look out, Mowgli!

Obliquely written details via Chicago Tribune.

Kevin A. Lewis commented:

Which brings us to Apocalyptic Scenario #37: Beverly Hills of 2025 is terrorized as roving gangs of cast-off celebrity kids of exotic backgrounds pee in the koi ponds and mess up orders at Starbucks... Sounds like the next big summer blockbuster pitch to me-at least Paris has the grace to stick to Chihuahuas...
