Puppies? I Have Your Puppies Right Here!
June 29, 2007
In March, a number of us at PW stumbled into the world of writing blog entries and this week we got our first “Matrix report” on which articles got the most hits.
I only received a report for the top 20 blog entries that are filed under the heading “Notes From the Bookroom,” which is where PW’s reviews editors post their blogs. Some people like v-p publisher David Nudo, deputy editor Karen Holt or “Book Maven” Bethanne Patrick get their own individual blogs, while we reviews editors all share rotating space under one heading.
The most clicked-on blog entry in our mini-fiefdom of “Notes From the Bookroom” was Jonathan Segura’s “You Know What I Like? Puppies.” (And by the way, his blog wasn’t about puppies, it was about his attempt to read Martin Amis’s Yellow Dog. Although you can see an adorable photo of his pooch in his latest entry.) “Puppies” got 635 individual visits, which is three times the number of hits the next highest read blog received (my “Welcome to New York…Now Go Home” with 206 visits).
I should really stop writing now because according to the matrix, most people spend less than one minute on each blog entry.
Among the top 20, the shortest amount of time was spent reading Marc Schultz’s “More Fun with Booze and Books”--with an average viewing time of 20 seconds. Which means you guys are missing out on some wildly funny links that Marc puts in most of this blog entries. Thanks to one of his links, I got a horse’s head pillow for my birthday!
My “Reading Gay Romance for the Lambda Book Awards” seemed to satisfy the average person’s curiosity in just 27 seconds. If that is the AVERAGE, can you imagine how short a visit must have been to counteract someone who read it in a minute?
Marc’s “Ride On, Good Sir Knight” had the longest average viewing time: 1 minute and 59 seconds. This entry boasted a youtube link to a drunken David Hasselhoff trying to eat a burger. See what I mean about great links?
