Atlanta Bound
September 28, 2007

Well it's 6 a.m. and I'm up and ready to head to the airport (as soon as my brother gets his butt over here).  I don't mind going early, but what to do if the bookstore there isn't open yet?  I could stand in the Starbucks line.  That should take up about 45 minutes because for some reason they only schedule one person to work at a time (of course, there isn't much room back there).  And I don't even like Starbucks, it always tastes burnt to me, but the whipped cream is nice.

I'm headed to Atlanta to the Moonlight and Magnolia's Conference (I just love the way that rolls off the tongue).  I've never been to Atlanta before so I researched it a little.  I'm excited to see where the Braves play, so I can give them the chop (the team was stolen from Milwaukee, you know).  It's the home of the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site NEW World of Coca-Cola, and the Yellow River Game Ranch and Kangaroo Conservation Center.

Of course, I probably won't have any time to do any of these things, but it's fun to know what's there, just in case.  (Except maybe the kangaroo conservation center...they're just so cute)

Well, stay tuned.  I've got lots of batteries for my little Fuji camera, so check back for updates on what's happenin' in Atlanta.  (picture of Atlanta's Flag)

Bottom line:  According to Wikipedia...Residents of the city are known as Atlantans. ("Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!)

You didn't tell us what books you're taking for the flight there (I know you'll pick up a bunch to read there and on the trip back). I always try to take a fun book that I won't mind discarding if I finish it on the flight. I no longer leave them on the planes (post 9/11) but I try to leave them in a public place in the airport, in the hope that someone else will pick them up. But the problem is, of course, if it's really fun then I want to keep it! Anyway, have a great trip. - Clea www.cleasimon.com

Barbara, Have a fabulous time! It seems EVERYONE (including my editor, Laura Cifelli) is going this year, which has me second-guessing my decision to stay home and write. Especially since it's just down the road. I keep telling myself I'll be glad I stayed at the computer when I make my deadline in just a few weeks. *g* We'll be right here waiting to hear all the gossip when you get back! (Um, of course, I meant industry NEWS. None of us would ever gossip! LOL)
