WW Ladies Book Club Blurbs
October 15, 2008

The WW Book ladies have their blurbs ready to go. As for me, I'll be heading for New Orleans very early tomorrow morning to attend Sherrilyn Kenyon's K-Con. This fan's only convention promises to be loaded with fun and misadventures (readers from last year will remember my search for the naked unconscious guy...no luck). Watch for lots of pictures and Drive By Videos of the event and New Orleans. No hurricanes on the forecast.
Promise for Tomorrow by Liz Kreger
Read by Joysann
Princess Rianna Chartier crash lands on a planet neither she, nor anyone, knows much about. She's been told that Dakar is barbaric, but when Successor Heir Jhaan san DeCain comes to her rescue, she thinks she's found the barbarian of her dreams.
Unknown to the Federation of Worlds, the inhabitants of Dakar have high degrees of psi-talent, which is often pereived as threatening by strangers. But the mental link that develops between Jhaan and Rianna is a perfect mating one, and it binds them for life. When they determaine that her crash was an assassination attempt, they need to find out by whom, and why, before both their lives are lost.
I spent a pleasurable few hours reading this tender romance of lovers meeting by happenstance in a futuristic world in danger of extinction. Liz Kreger writes passionate characters that display courage, strength and devotion - the kind of people we'd like to be or know ourselves.
The House on Tradd Street by Karen White
Read by Jan
After meeting with Nevin Vanderhorst two days previous relisting his 1848 ante-bellum house at 55 Tradd Street, Charleston realtor (and psychic) Melanie Middleton finds herself the sole owner of the neglected house and garden (and small dog) following Mr. Vanderhorst's demise. A letter from Nevin implores her to restore the house and to unearth the mystery of why his beloved mother left him and his father at such and early age, never to be heard from again. Melanie is aghast...as much as she loves selling these old historical homes she recognizes the drain of funds into insolvency that restoration can cause. Luckily, she has a wonderful friend, Dr. Sophie Wallen, a professor of historic preservation at Charleston College, and writer Jack Trenholm (definitely a prospective love interest) who offer to help bring the home back to life. And did you catch the word "psychic"? Melanie senses the home is haunted after 'seeing' a woman pushing a child in a swing in the garden and numerous paranormal incidents around the house.
I quite enjoyed this book with its twists and turns and mysteries turning into more mysteries. Karen's vivid descriptions piqued my imagination....she'd kept her Roget's 'close at hand'.
The Awakening by Shannon Drake

Here's a great Halloween tale! Finn and Megan Douglas are performing in Salem for Halloween week and they find themselves caught between good and evil. Not knowing who to trust, Megan turns to her Wiccan cousin, and Finn tries to put his prejudices aside in order to bond with Megan's family.
Finn and Megan experience dreams of demons and murder, and consequently start to mistrust each other. Who do you turn to when a coven of Satanists have chosen you as a sacrifice?
Shannon writes in a way that gives me chills and a compelling need to turn the page.
'Tween Heaven and Hell by Sam Cheever
Read by Joysann
When the angels need help defending the earth from the demons and devels, they send in the Tweeners, non-humans that are neither good nor bad, angel or demon; they are a little bit of both. In the futuristic world she lives in, Astra Q Phelps is a kick-ass invetigator who locates and destroys evil creatures that slip from their dimension into the human one. When a potential client is killed, she's drawn into a tug-of-war between opposing evil factions fighting for the rule of Hell, and/or the damning of the whole universe.
Sam Cheever's book cracked me up. There were battles and horrors and evil and romance, but the gutsy and cheeky protagonist remained optimitic throughout. Her mental dialogue and commentaries are lever and witty and kept me chuckling. The droll chapter headings are well done and oh, so bad. The story was pretty good too! I enjoyed 'Tween Heaven and Hell a lot.
Silencing Sarah by M.L. Cordle
Read by Michelle
All Madison Owens wanted to do after her divorce was to go back home. Her parents always told her the cabin on the ridge would be hers. Unfortunately her parents sold it to Will McGomery without telling her. Madison decides to talk Will into selling her back the family property.
Madison unwittingly finds herself in the middle of a nightmare. She's being haunted by the ghost of a murdered girl who apparently was carrying Will McGomery's baby. But Will was never tried for the murder, his cousin was. So who is the real killer?
A must read that had me reading during breaks, lunches and bus rides. Gripping to the end.
Secrets of a Shoe Addict by Beth Harbison
Read by Judy
Don't be fooled by the title, this book is not about shoes. From page one the reader is involved in the lives of Loreen, Abby, Tiffany and Sandra as they get into financial messes on a PTA trip to Las Vegas. Their their lives dramatically change after the trip.
Beth has deftly developed and enlivened each character so that you feel their pain, anger, frustration and happiness. Her subtle development keeps you reading to see what can possibly happen next. I found this to be a truly engaging and enjoyable book. I'm headed for the first one, Shoe Addicts Anonymous.
After the Kiss by Suzanne Enoch
Read by Emily
Lady Isabel Chalsey heard a noise in the middle of the night, but she had no idea that it would turn out to be a burglar. Sullivan Waring is only trying to take back what is rightfully his, but the vision that appears may spoil his getaway. To distract her he favors her with a kiss, and goes on his merry way, but not before she removes his mask and sees the face of her thief. To her surprise she sees him the next day at a horse auction and is stunned to find out he is actually a well respected horse breeder and trainer. She holds her knowledge over his head, and blackmails him to do her bidding. When his enemies realize how much he is coming to care for her, he can't take the risk of putting her in harms way.
Suzanne Enoch always writes such thrilling books. I've read her Griffin Family series, and was excited to read her newest release in this new series, Notorious Gentlemen. Let me tell you it didn't disappoint, and I'm counting down the days till the next book in the series is released.
Bottom Line: I didn't have a chance to have my beignets the last time I was in New Orleans thanks to Gustav, so I guess I'll have to have them twice this time.
