WW Ladies Blurbs for Friday

March 6, 2009
Special edition of Your Turn Friday with a visit from the WW Ladies and their book blurbs.

Just a reminder that Monday starts the Anniversary Bash Week here at BHB and you're all invited.    Everyday is themed and over 200 authors, publishers, editors, readers, librarians and bloggers have gotten together to help celebrate by offering cyber food, drinks, decorations and entertainment.  In addition, hundreds of prizes have been donated and will be given away daily including gift cards, autographed books and gift baskets and PW is even kicking in a $150 gift card from Amazon.  So...be there or be square!  (Ok, my 50's are showing)  And I'm still sifting through the hundreds of emails I've received about this.  Please know that everyone will be represented at the party and I'm answering them as fast as I can.

Here's the schedule of events:

Monday, March 9th:         Paranormal/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror/Urban Fantasy
Tuesday, March 10th:       Thriller/Suspense/Mystery/Adventure
Wednesday, March 11th:  Publishers/publicist/editors/bloggers/librarians
Thursday, March 12th:     Inspirational/YA/Graphic Novels/Nonfiction
Friday, March 13th:          Contemporary/Historical/Erotica/E-books/Audio
Saturday, March 14th:       Romance Blow Out (Joysann has suggested this be a costume ball, so be creative)

HeidiLone Star Courtship by Mae NunnLone Star Courtship by Mae Nunn

Read by Heidi

Her entire career was hanging on the yes or no of a total stranger? Well, Casey Hardy would just have to show British lawyer Barret Westbrook what she was made of. And that was 100% serious Texan businesswoman. She'd worked so hard to prove her father that she could run their family company. But one no from Barrett, with his ledgers and checklists, and Casey could forget her dreams.

This book was such pleasant read!! I felt like I was right there in Texas, watching a courtship start at the beginning. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, wrapped up with a great book!!

JoysannThe Devil's Due by Jenna Black The Devil's Due by Jenna Black

Read by Joysann

Demonic possession is not a matter of heaven and hell, but of willingly sharing the human experience by hosting an immortal being from a different plane of reality, unless the current demonic regime changes the policy to force. Morgan Kingsley is reluctantly adjusting to hosting the demon king-in-exile, but she doesn't have to like it. Because she remains in control, no one can tell she's possessed, which makes her a perfect place to keep him hidden in safety until he can regain his throne. But trusting the demon king is difficult for the tough, stubborn, sarcastic, feisty licensed exorcist, even when allowing him control might be the only way to save her life, and his.

Reading Jenna Black's urban fantasy series has been a pleasure from the start, and this third book keeps the fun going. The premise is inventive, the characters are provocative, and the action is exciting. Jenna has a captivating story going here, and once you start, you'll have to read the next one, I know I will.

EmilyA Highlander Never Surrenders by Paula QuinnA Highlander Never Surrenders by Paula Quinn

Read by Emily

Scotswoman, Claire Stuart has been captured by English General Monck to be used as a bargaining tool to her brother. But little does he know that she is a warrior, and is set on killing him. She is rescued by the peaceful warrior Graham Grant, and isn't to happy about it. She needs to save her sister and kill General Monck, and not necessarily in that order. As they travel to her brother, Claire and Graham fall head over kilt for each other. But a future together is out of the question, seeing as how Claire supports the rebellion and all Graham wants is peace.

I have read some of Paula Quinn's previous books, and I knew that I'd enjoy reading this one too. The characters are well written, and the plot is just juicy enough to keep you reading, she even ties in real historical figures. This is the second book in the Highlander series, and I can't wait for what is sure to be another book in the series.

JoyannVision of Seduction by Cassie RyanVision of Seduction by Cassie Ryan

Read by Joysann

Grayson is one of three men of the royal house who must seek a mate with psychic abilities on Earth in a parallel universe. Through ancient rituals, the union of these couples can raise the magical energy needed to revitalize the dying planet of Tador, and save it's civilization. Having found relationship-adverse Katelyn, The Seer, Grayson has to convince her to surrender her independence, join with him, and perhaps find that the magic that they can create between them might even be founded in love.

Cassie Ryan's second book in her Seduction series continues a light, lusty fantasy. Inventive and erotic, her stories provide good entertainment to heat up the coldest evening. I particularly enjoy the very warranted warning label on the back cover - hot, hot, hot.

MarieLord of the Dark by Dawn ThompsonLord of the Dark by Dawn Thompson

Read by Marie

Gideon was the greatest Archangel of the Arcan Gods until he was banished and punished for lusting after a mortal woman.  Now cursed and forced to live with his sin for decades, Gideon can’t hide his wings and he can’t fly with becoming painfully aroused with no way to ease the pain without punishment.  Rhiannon was on her way to her betrothed when was shipwrecked just off the coast of a desolate island.  After washing ashore, she made her way to what appeared to be an abandoned cave, since there was no one inside or any where around the area she took advantage of some of the items stored inside.  After bathing in the cave's pool, she came face-to-face with a towering naked man with massive silver wings.

I loved this book.  Dawn has written compelling characters in this series of banished heroes.  The pages sparked with fire.  I laughed the first time I saw the warning label on the back, but I found out quickly that it was appropriate.  This is the second book in the series but my first by this author and I will be going straight away to pick up the others.  I was very saddened to hear that she left us last year.  She was a magnificent storyteller.

Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas
Read by Ms. Faye

Ella gets a phone call out of the blue from her mother saying her sister had a child and left the child there. She wants Ella to come get "the thing" before her young boyfriend figures out she's a grandmother. Ella's live-in boyfriend does not want a child in the house and if Ella goes, she cannot bring the baby back with her. With no where to turn, Ella ends up taking the baby. Circumstances bring her to Jack Travis who agrees to help her out until something more permanent can be done. Ella has some real issues that she has fought hard to overcome. She is strong and practical, but the baby melts her heart. And so does smooth talking Jack Travis.

A contemporary romance set in Houston, this novel looks at a lot of different types of relationships. You have a hero who is a millionaire playboy (I am in love with him). But, the heroine really touched my heart. For anyone who has ever been told growing up that they were not "enough" or not "worthy" you've got to read this book.

Now it's Your Turn.  What books have you been reading lately?

Bottom Line:  The decorations for the Monday paranormal party have started to arrive, but you really could have waiting another couple of days to send the bats, and the vampire cookies are delicious (I just had to try one).

Barbara and Marie,

I wish to thank you for showcasing Dawn's Lord of the Dark. This series was very close to Dawn, and I think many can miss some of the very deep symbolism in these books by not knowing Dawn personally. Dawn was confined to a wheelchair for the last 11 years of her life, due to a car accident and crippling arthritis. She lived in constant pain, and at night, it was often hard for her to get into bed since she had no help. You see that pain reflected in these pages in the character of Gideon - his inability to retract his wings so he cannot sleep at night - same as you saw in the Tree Ancients in the first book. The trees "rooted" to the ground and unable to walk and enjoy life as the others, again was a reflection of Dawn’s pain she suffered each day.

They are amazing books with Tolkien level world-building. I am just so sorry the series ended with Dawn finishing Lord of the Forrest from her hospital bed before her death.

See was an amazing talent and will be missed by so many.

Hi WW Ladies - this has become one of my favorite days to jump on the net just to see what you've read. Love the line up of stories. I've had the pleasure of reading Mae Nunn's books for several years. She's a wonderful author who has a new one coming out this September that I think will touch a lot of hearts as well, very emotional story.

I'm a big paranormal-fantasy, historical and highlander fan, too, so this week is a real get for my new reading list.

How sad about Dawn. She's left quite a legacy and is someone to be admired for her determination to bring something wonderful to the world from the pain she endured. Thanks for sharing that, Deborah and kudos on your success.

Thank you so much for showcasing my sister, Dawn Thompson's book, Lord of the Dark. I really appreciate it. This was a very special series to her. She was working on this series in her final days and what Deborah Macgillivray says in her comment here is so very true. So much of Dawn's pain does come through in her writing of this series. All Dawn's books were very special to her, but this series was especially close to her heart. Thank you so much again.

Thank you so much for the wide variety of books showcased today! I especially am interested in Dawn Thompson's Lord Of The Dark....I will defintely be picking up this series. I am sad to hear that she is no longer with us and not able to share more from her world.

I am just finishing Gena Showalter's The Vampire's Bride. It is a wonderful addition to her Atlantis series and a treat for fans. Layel the Vampire King is a hero everyone will root for as he strives for vengence and finds a love filled with more passion than his heart can hold.

Thanks Barb for this nice variety of books! I recently read "Bean There, Done That" (coffee shop owner/sleuth) by Sandra Balzo, "Working Stiff" (great addition to the author's series) by Tori Carrington (AKA husband & wife team?) & "Quick Study" by Maggie Barbieri. All great books combining mystery & romance!
