Your Favorite Character Starring...
September 10, 2007
I love books, movies and television, in that order. So what happens when they take a beloved book character and put a real human face to it. Well, sometimes it works and most times not, but I always hope for the best.

When I started reading
Kathy Reichs forensic anthropologist (and what the heck was that anyway??), Dr. Temperance Brennan, years ago I pictured Patty Duke (come on, I did say years ago). You know, kind of small, but tough know it all. I think they did a pretty darn good job casting Emily Deschanel on the tv show Bones who plays her straight with such honest naiveness. Of course, throwing David Boreanaz in the mix was a stroke of genius. I mean, I would watch him opening cans of beans.
Over at
Sophie Kinsella's website, they're all up in arms about British actress Isla Fisher (who??) playing the beloved, pampered spendthrift British Becky Bloomwood as (gulp) an American who lives in New York. What are they thinking? Why change a winning combination??
Way back when
Sue Grafton was only up to the letter D, I heard her speak at a local library. She said that she felt her readers each had a distinct vision of Kinsey Millhone and she didn't want that vision to be tainted by having a specific actress play the part. Sue swore she would never sign away the rights for her tough as nails PI to have real person's face attached to it. So for me, I see Rosemarie DeWitt (from the tv show Standoff). She looks like a no-nonsense kind of person that has a haunted past, but has a heart of gold.
Then we have the much anticipated Stephanie Plum movie, which according to
Janet Evanovich was optioned over 10 years ago. What the heck are they waiting for?? Janet's pick for Stephanie...Sandra Bullock and I agree. Her hair alone from
Miss Congeniality did it for me. (Big Jersey hair)
So, who would you like to see playing your favorite characters on the big or small screen? Feel free to talk about your own characters or someone elses. Be as wild and crazy as you want. Anything goes...
Bottom line: I would be cast as Connie, the big busted, heavily made up office manager of Plum Bail Bonds...it's only make believe, you know. (Sorry, no picture available)
