Your Turn 10
August 10, 2007

I have to admit that I've been lax with my reading this week.   Vacation called and I answered.  I spent the week visiting my son, Keith and his family in the St. Louis area and had a blast with my adorable grandchildren.  Needless to say, there wasn't a lot of time left for reading.

With that said, my book of the week was Real Women Don't Wear Size 2 by Kelley St. John.  I admit that I picked this up for the title alone.  Of course, my daughter in law, Jennifer saw the book and laughed.  Yes folks, she is a size 2.  This book is about reserved, curvy Clarise who turns 30 and wants her best friend/boss, Ethan to see her in a whole different light.  Things heat up at a Corporate Bonding weekend in Tampa.  This book is pure romance.  A fun, feel good read.  And I'm all about the curves.

Alas, no audio this week.  I walked every morning with Jennifer and it would have been just a little tacky to whip out my iPod.

Since this is so short and sweet, it's up to you gang to fill in the blanks with your reads for the week.  Don't be shy, inquiring minds want to know, so it's your turn.

Bottom line:
Real Women read "Beyond Her Book(s)"

Just finished Colin Cotterill's fourth Dr. Siri Paiboun mystery, "Anarchy and Old Dogs," and while I just adore this series (the hero is a 73 year old coroner who has recently discovered that he also houses the spirit of a 1,000 year old shaman), I think this one is maybe not as good as the others. Ah well! Next up, an ARC of Claier Matturro's "Sweetheart Deal," which doesn't seem to have the culture and color of Cotterill (hmmm... alliteration!), but is already laugh out loud funny! - Clea www.cleasimon.com

A couple weeks ago your reader Chris Edison mention "Austenland" by Shannon Hale. Sounded interesting to me, so that's what I finished last night. Charming. I loved it. Now I'm listening to "The Harlequin" by Laurell K Hamilton. What a switch!

Joysannoh, I read "The Harlequin" when it first came out and felt it was the best Anita Blake book in a long time (they were getting kind of bazaar there for a while), but I'd be interested in knowing if it was easy to follow in audio form. There's a lot a characters to keep track of. ........................................... Clea, I read a lot, but you always seem to have someone I've never heard of. Oh well, more names to add to my list. BTW, I love alliteration (Alex, I'll take Alliteration of Amazing Authors for $600)

After reading your comments on Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon, I had to run out and get it. You were right, it was terrific. My favorite Dark Hunter book so far and finally, a story about Ash. This is a keeper.

Loved the history of your reading habits! Me, I've always loved fiction, and the non-fiction I read is mostly history. Figures, right? EG: I just finished reading The Truth About Love by Stephanie Laurens, have started Have You Seen Her by Karen Rose, and The Pale Horseman by Bernard Cornwell is on the iPod. I also happen to be a big fantasy fan (think DragonLance and Anne McCaffery :)). Shari www.sharianton.com

Barb, you call yourself "lax" in reading this week, but at least you accomplished ONE book!!! I didn't get even 100 pages read this week, but I plan on reading tonight until I can no longer hold my eyes open!!! I'm reading an older book from one of my all-time favorite authors, Carol Finch. It's called Endless Passion.

Barbara, I finished the audio "The Harlequin" last evening, and you are right; this is best book in awhile and I really enjoyed it. As to keeping characters straight, after reading all of the books 2 or 3 times, I don't have a problem with that, so I can't say whether anyone else would find it difficult. I recommend listening; the books are read well(Cynthia Holloway).
