Your Turn 6
July 6, 2007

So, how are those summer reads coming?  Nothing better than kicking back with a good book, reclining on a lounger, sun shining, mild breeze, cold, frosty drink with an umbrella in it.  Ahhhh, bliss.  Of course, when I open my eyes, I'm sitting on my couch, with the fan blowing and a can of diet root beer. (sigh)  But I still have my book, so all is well with the world.

This week I'm reading Lisa Plumley's Josie Day is Coming Home.  A light, fun summer read with former Vegas showgirl, Josie, aquiring an Arizona estate.  Of course, the town hunk and bad boy is there to upset her plans.

On my iPod is A Taste of Crimson by Marjorie Liu.  This is the second book in the Crimson series and the very tentative peace between vampires and werewolves.  I tend to walk really fast while listening to this.

In my car I'm listening to Lisa Scottoline's Devil's Corner.  Prosecuter Vicki Allegretti is meeting with an informant when someone starts shooting.  She escapes, but two others don't.  Tense, thriller that keeps you guessing.

Ok, what books are getting sandy at the beach for you?

Bottom Line:  Sand you can brush off.....drop it in the water and it's a goner.

I've had the most wonderful time this week reading Julia Quinn's latest, The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever. This is the first book in a long time that has kept me up until the wee hours of morning! What can I say? JQ is an absolute favorite and I always find her work so refreshing!

After reading about Teresa Medieros last week, I got her book, Yours Until Dawn. It's a Regency set book about an earl who's blinded in the war and his fiance leaves him. A nurse helps him find his way. It was great and really tugged at my heart. I'm a sucker for this stuff. :)

I don't have a fun light read for summer. But I am now interested in Devil's Corner. Can I borrow that one when you're done? And I WISH I were going to a beach!(with an umbrella, gin & tonic and good book)

Hello again Barbara! I am doing alot of reading (unfortunately it's my mail, bills & magazines!), but I'm dabbling in the Evanovich series when I get a chance to read for fun & relaxation! Thanks for the visualization exercise--sand, lounge chair, drink & book--I'll take it when I can! Keep up the good work!

Hi, Barbara! I'm jealous of that fan and root beer. Makes me want to retreat to my sun porch with my copy of Valerie Hansen's Shadow of Turning, which I picked up this week. Finished Patterson's Exile (fascinating!). I'm headed to Atlanta for ICRS next week, so I'm hoping to gather a lot of books (or at least titles).

I just read Code Name Nanny by Christina Skye. Strong women, alpha males, mix in action and this is a great summertime read.

I just reread Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I don't usually read nonfiction, but this book always makes me feel good.

The house at Otowi Bridge: The Story of Edith Warner and Los Alamos by Peggy Pond Church. This is one of those very rare 'slice of life' books about a unique individual, Edith Warner, who , in the 1930s and 40s, befriended both the Indians and the scientists at Los Alamos.
