Furry Alpha Males
June 18, 2007

Nothing says alpha male quite like a werewolf and Jennifer St. Giles knows her werewolves.  I interviewed Jennifer the last day of the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention over a breakfast of fresh fruit and frittata (I only mention this because I never had a frittata before and I like the way it sounds...frittata).

I was lamenting the fact that I had packed up all the books I had received and shipped them home, so I had nothing to read on the plane ride home.  Jennifer immediately offered me a copy of Touch a Dark Wolf, the first book in her Shadowmen series.  Once checked in, I found myself engrossed in the story and I finished it while waiting for my luggage.  Perfect timing.  A couple of days later, I received an ARC (Advance Reading Copy) of Lure of the Wolf.  Oh great, I thought, now I have to put off cleaning the house to read it.   (I'm very dedicated to this blogging business)  Well, it was even better than the first (which I loved) and we all know how I hate to wait for the next one to come out.  Rats!!

BV:  Did you always want to write?

JSG:  I always was a bookworm.  Very shy and introverted.  I wrote poetry, loved reading Victoria Holt and Rosemary Rogers.

BV:  When did you write your first book?

JSG:  When I was pregnant with my first child, in my early 20's.  Two years later I was pregnant again and started my second book.  By my third pregnancy, eight years later, I wrote another one.  Nine years after that, I sold my first book.  I had written a total of 10 books before I got published.

BV:  I understand there is a story involving that first manuscript.

JSG:  I sat in the post office parking lot over an hour addressing envelopes.  Shows you how much I've evolved.

BV:  You had quite a scare in 2006.

JSG:  In November 2006, I underwent brain surgery for a benign brain tumor.  But writing Darkest Dreams saw me through.

BV:  You have a 21 year old daughter.  Does she read your books?

JSG:  She loves them and she wants to be a writer.  (proud mother smile)

BV:  Any final thoughts for everyone out there?

JSG:  Never give up on your dreams.  Believe in yourself.

Bottom Line:    I believe in furry, alpha males.

Hi Barbara: You have excellent taste! I'm lucky enough to be Jenni's critique partner, so I get to read her wonderful stories long before they're published. She has a way with putting words together that floors me. I'm surprised, however, that you actually got her to eat fruit and a fritatta since she's more a bacon and sausage girl. A tip for the future--Jenni can be bribed with cheesecake and/or chocolate. But then again, can't we all??!! Enjoyed the interview! Best regards, Jacquie D'Alessandro

Jacquie, let me clarify...I was eating the fruit and frittata. When I eat I am very focused. I have no clue what Jennifer was eating as long as she didn't take anything off my plate. :)

I'm not particularly into the "wolf" thing and was hesitant to read this series. However, I'm so enthralled with Ms. St. Giles' work, I couldn't resist. I'm grateful for the experience. It's a fast, fun read! And no one can write a love scene like her! Thanks for your blog! Holly in Tulsa

Although not much of a romance reader, I've noticed in passing that vampires have outweighed werewolves for years as plot zingers; maybe they don't make great dating material because it's hard to find one that's housebroken?!?

Have to say Kevin Lewis that my alpha's don't need training. Thier natural instincts are way more than the heroines ever dreamed of! Give one a try! LOL Jennifer St. Giles

Not sure about the werewolf thing... but it certainly is exciting when you see someone passionate about what they like to read! :)

I love, love LOVE Jennifer St. Giles’ werewolf books. They’re on my “automatic buy” list, right up there with Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse books.

Touch A Dark Wolf is most definitely different from the kind of 'romance novel' I was expecting, with a firm anchor in plot and character, the romance accenting it, not carrying it. St. Giles has a great way of entwining the story with the romance, instead of feeling like you're reading out-of-place situations. I read half of the book in one sitting! And from someone who first off has never read a categorized romance novel before; and secondly grew up not liking to read, that is saying something! I would in fact recommend this book to my brothers (if they could handle the romance in it) as an intriguing and intricate fantasy, otherworldly read. I'm waiting anxiously for its sequel to come out at the end of July! Mel

To Kevin: CLEARLY you are not female, or you wouldn't have said werewolves aren't hot. The hero in this book is…Ooolalala mega hot stuff and house broken or not, I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers (or wetting where he shouldn't)! He is the consummate Alpha Male with just the perfect amount of lust to make any woman weak in the knees and tingly in those special places. Jennifer ALWAYS writes the most compelling books where the heroines are not feeble-minded or less important than their male counterparts. As far as I'm concerned NO ONE writes hot scenes as well as Jenni and I've read every one of her fabulous books. "Touch a Dark Wolf" is a MUST read! Fun, suspenseful, ultra hot and BELIEVABLE! They don't get any better than Jennifer St. Giles.

Well, I tried dating a female werewolf once, and if I took her someplace nice she ate the wine list, and the bucket and bones at KFC... She did turn me every way but loose, though...

Hmmm… I must say Jennifer St. Giles has captivated me with her ultra Alpha Furry Males. “Touch a Dark Wolf “has wet my taste buds and kept my mouth watering for “Lure of the Wolf” out in July. I live in a area much like the setting in her story … I find my heat beat quickens when I hear a rustling in the woods hoping and praying I am going to be ravaged by a Alpha Furry Male of Jennifer St. Giles creation.

I have never been much into werewolf or vampire stories but because I loved Jennifer's previous books of the gothic/mystery/romance genre I decided to give this one a try. What a fun read - furry alpha males - grrrr! I can't wait for The Lure of the Wolf next month. I love a writer who can give me intelligent, strong females who are an equal match for their alpha males (even if they are of a slightly different species). Jenni - keep on writing!

I am a huge lover of paranormal romances. I was so happy to see one of my favorite authors, Jennifer St. Giles, write a story in my favorite genre. Jennifer's werewolf is the ultimate alpha male, sure to make any woman lust after a furry male of her own. I can't wait to read the sequel in July.

Jennifer St. Giles is one of the best authors I have ever read. That is saying a lot since I have read an average of 3 books per month for the last half of a century. I'm looking forward to reading The Lure of the Wolf, to see what adventures Dr. Batista and Aragon find. Jenni, you rock, woman! You are dearly loved... Libby

I'm a man and I admit that I haven't read the book. I'm the alphamale in my house and I intend to keep it that way. I will say that my wife was "in the mood" after she read it and that's all that matters to me. Based on that alone, the book has to be GREAT! THANK YOU, Ms. St. Giles!

Jennifer St. Giles had brought yet another Alpha Furry Male that you can't get enough of. Aragon the extremely hot hero in her latest USA Today bestseller "The Lure of the Wolf" is the second book in her "Shadowmen" series. I'm having difficulty deciding which hero I want more. Because Jared, her hero in "Touch a Dark Wolf," completely captured my heart. Now there's Aragon. I guess I will have to settle on having two of them. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the Shadowmen Series. I first fell in love with Jennifer's style of writing with her gothic novels, the Mistress of Trevelyan and His Dark Desires. Now she's entered those into the paranormal realm with "Midnight Secrets", its sequel "Darkest Dreams" and the third story in the series. "Silken Shadows" is due out this December! A word to Jennifer St. Giles keep them coming PLEASE!!!!.
