The Southern Belle
July 1, 2007
The first time I met
Sharon Sala (aka Dinah McCall) was on a cruise ship. She was laughing and joking with fellow author Beverly Barton. They reminded me of two southern belles who entranced all of us on the ship.
BV: I find your books very emotional. Do the stories ever get to you?
SS: There were a couple.
Out of the Dark was about children being pimped by a cult and sold to pedophiles.
The Chosen is about a man with a brain tumor and a near death experience who wanted to be redeemed and tried to do so by kidnapping disciples.
BV: What do you enjoy about writing?
SS: I love creating the story, especially when fiction parallels fact.
BV: How do your stories come to you?
SS: I dream 99% of my stories. I would just think about the story, go to sleep and it would come to me. I could always dream my way out of a problem in the plot.
BV: Were you an overnight sensation in the publishing world?
SS: I wrote my first book in 1980 and the second in 1981. They were awful. (laughs)
BV: So, when was your breakthrough?
SS: In 1991 I joined a writer's group and the first publisher who read my book bought it. I'm now on my 70th book.
BV: Any final thoughts?
SS: To my readers, thanks for all the years of being faithful and for the comments over the years, even the gripes. It's all about free speech.
Bottom Line: 70 books!!! I've got to read faster!!!
