Your Turn 18
November 2, 2007

I cannot believe this is the 18th time we are doing this and from the feedback I'm getting everyone is thrilled to have so many great books suggested.  Many have tried authors they otherwise wouldn't have.  Some even complained (half-heartedly) that their lists are getting too long because they want to read them all.  What a dilemma!

Well, here's more to add to your lists.  This week I read The Road to Hell by Jackie Kessler.  The sequel to Hell's Belles has Jesse Harris (the former Jezebel, ex-succubus and current stripper) happily living in New York with boyfriend and vice cop, Paul Hamilton.  That is until Hell's Fury, Alecto, arrives to bring Jesse back to Hell, to help save her sister, Megaera.  Jesse's afraid it's a one way ticket, for good reason.  An entertaining read that sends all preconceived notions of heaven and hell out the window.  Personally, I wish I would have read Hell's Belles first.  I was kind of lost in the beginning, not knowing the back story.  So, if you like wild, sexy, out of the box reads, start with Hell's Belles and move right into The Road to Hell, you're in for a hot read.

Next up is Highland Fling by Jennifer LaBrecque.  Kate Wexford is an ER doctor who's job is the only thing in her life until she visits the museum and feels the pull of a picture of Darach MacTavish, Laird of Glenagan, who died 250 years earlier.  The unexpected happens when she is pushed into the picture and lands naked in Darach's bed.  I'm a pushover for Highlander books and this delightful time travel adventure has Kate trying to figure out a way for Darach not to die at Culloden.  It kept me guessing, a plus in any book and since  I read this on the airplane, the time flew by. (I know, I know, another bad pun, but come on, did you expect anything less??)

Ok, now it's your turn.  What have you been reading this week (or last week since I didn't get a chance to ask then)?  Add to the anguish of those with the long TBR lists by telling them about your reads.

Bottom Line:  A Highland Fling on the Road to Hell...catchy title for a book and an interesting premise.

Hey Barbara :) Terrific highlights! I've read Jennifer's and will now make sure to get Jackie's too! I read Return by Karen Kingsbury and Knight of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor. Loved both of them! And I loved your photos from New Orleans! Sherrilyn is the keynote speaker at the Birmingham luncheon tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to visiting with her again :) Have a great weekend! Kelley

Love the pun, Barbara! :) LOL at A Highland Fling on the Road to Hell. THAT would be a book. And now I've also added Jackie's Hell's Belles and The Road to Hell to be TBR bookcase (not shelf or stack but bookcase -- are we seeing a problem here?) Thanks again for blogging with us at Soapbox Queens this week. You look fab in a tiara, and yes, it's yours to keep. ;)

I'm reading Tall, Dark, and Filthy Rich by Jill Monroe. Man, she is so amazing. I love her work. She's a Blaze writer like Jennifer LaBrecque.

I've been gobbling up Blazes, Desires, and Intrigues, in a weird change in my reading tastes! This past week, though, I've been reading the anthology A ROSE OF ANY COLOUR: MALEDOM, which is a collection of BDSM-themed romances released Oct 30. The e-book is available at www.freyasbower.com - it's exciting because I have a novella in the antho, but hadn't read a single story but mine prior to the release.

I'm rereading Catch 22 right now, but I just finished reading "The Dowry Bride" by Shobwan Bantwal. It was FANTASTIC! The writing was so lush, and the plot was well-written and moved quickly. And it was a fascinating look at the dark underbelly of India and the horrible issue of dowry killings. It's a romantic suspense and has a very happy ending. :) Before that, I read Gemma Halliday's "Undercover in High Heels." Just as good as her first two!

Hello Barbara! I've been trying to finish some of my Debbie Macomber's books, as well as working my way thru the Janet Evanovich series! Romance & action/mystery--what more could a woman want (besides wine & chocolate?!!) Thanks for the new titles/authors!

Violet said she's reading some of Debbie Macomber's books, and I just finished her latest, Where Angels Go. It's a fun book that brings back Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy, for all of us fans. I'm reading Robert B. Parker's latest Spenser, Now and Then. I'm addicted to Spenser and his witticisms. I have read all 35 Spenser books, although I'm not a fan of Parker's other series. Tom Brokaw's new book on the Sixties, Boom!, awaits. Lesa Holstine, www.lesasbookcritiques.blogspot.com

Greetings Barbara, I'm trying to put a dent in my TBR bookcase by reading several at once. I'm reading Blond Faith by Walter Mosley, Outlander by Diana Gobaldon (on my Palm Pilot) and I came to Sherrilyn Kenyon's series late. I'm reading Kiss of the Night now, but it's my fifth Dark Hunter in as many weeks and they're starting to blend--time to slow down there.

See, this is what happens...I get all these great suggestions. I need more time!! These are some ambitious reads and some I've read already, but Jackie, I've got to give you credit if you are reading several at once. Especially Outlander which is quite involved. Enjoy your reads everyone!

I've had Linnea Sinclair's Games of Command on the shelf since I bought it at RT in April and I'm finally getting to it - I had to read Gabriel's Ghost first. I like sci-fi, and Linnea does it well. I'm listening to Seduced by Moonlight for the 2nd time cuz I want to refresh my memory before I start the new Merry Gentry book. I'm obstinate about reading books in order. Now I've got more books for my TBR...

Too funny Barb. How about The Road to Hell leads to a Highland Fling! Talk about being between a Rock and a Hardspot! LOL no I did not say that! Well, I'm currently working furiously on my deadline, but sneaking in a chapter or two every now and then on JR WARDS' LOVER UNBOUND. Those Black Dagger Brotherhood boys are as addictive as what I imagine a hard core drug would be. I'm also gearing up for the release of my December book Silken Shadows! The Reveiws have been totally hot! Have a great day!
