The Magnolias in Bloom
October 1, 2007

The highlight of Saturday evening was the Maggie Awards Ceremony. The glitz, the glamour, the suspense. These awards are given for unpublished and published works. Two of the winners were Leslie Tentler for her unpublished single title,
Say Nothing and
Tanya Michaels for her published long contemporary,
The Good Kind of Crazy. (Their awards are the beautiful medallions of magnolias on their necklaces)

Since the Georgia Romance Writers group was celebrating their 25th anniversary, they gave a special award to 2 of the 8 original members still active in the group, Nancy Knight and Sandra Anglin Chastain. In their acceptance speech, they told the story of selling their first book. It seems their agent was having lunch with an editor who found himself with an open slot for a book needed in a hurry to launch a new line. It was Friday and the proposal needed to be to the editor by Tuesday. Now Sandra need to work until noon on Saturday and right after that the two friends managed to get it done by Sunday, have hubby spell check it and then overnighted it to the editor on Monday. By Thursday they sold the book and were given 2 months to write it. No pressure there.....but they got the book done and did a darned good job of it.
Also celebrating the night were
Elissa Wilds,
C. L. Wilson, Berta Platas and
Michelle Roper (who write together as Gillian Summers)
Looking stunning in basic black was the woman who made all the magic happen,
Dianna Love Snell (left) with Darcy Crower. (And a cast of thousands who worked for the past year to make this conference so successful) Great job everyone!!
Afterwards it's time for decadent chocolate and dancing with the DJ.
Bottom Line: Decadent Chocolate and the DJ...sounds like a winning title for a romance to me.
