RWA: Death By ChocolateJuly 17, 2009![]() Thursday morning started with breakfast with Bellas, a group started by highly energetic Michelle Buonfiglio. Michelle writes the popular B(u)y the the Book blog, just finished a stint with MyLifetimeTV.com and is now writing romance blogs for Barnes and Noble.com. Meanwhile, Carolyn Jewel took in the Janet Evanovich breakfast: Janet Evanovich did a wide-ranging, funny and often emotional question and answer session for RWA members. The story of her first sale, which came after she burned a crate full of 10 years worth of rejections, had both her and the audience teary-eyed. She'd love to help debut or midlist authors get the exposure that can come with co-authoring with a writer (Janet, herself) who has already had breakout success. She encouraged authors to send her their books. Stories with a spark will be passed on to her for further consideration. For fans of her writing, Diesel, from the Stephanie Plum series, will be getting his own, very sexy, series.
joysann here: While Barbara was off to that lunch, I attended the Keynote Luncheon with some 2000 other attendees, and listened to speaker dynamic, ageless and stunning Linda Howard. With humorous anecdotes of nutty family adventures starring her parents and siblings, she claimed she is the "nut keeper". The story about the tractor lawn mower, the wheel chair and the bungee cord had listeners laughing to tears.
The RWA Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal PRISM Awards event was exciting to observe. As was the awards presentations by the Kiss of Death Chapter, who proceeded to kill off everyone there with Death by Chocolate. What a way to go... Congratulations to all the winners. Time for a quick shower and off to the Jane Rotrosen Agency Cocktail party where I got to meet Meg Ruley, Sheryl Azjechowski of Brilliance Audio and Marcha Zinberg, editor at Harlequin. There was a wonderful piano player, but the room was so loud and hot it was hard to hear the person next to you. On to the Ritz Carlton where I met with Harlequin's elite and over champagne we had a lovefest going on that you can see in my Drive By Video™. Bottom Line: I can't believe I settled for a Twix bar when I could have had the real death by chocolate. Posted by Barbara Vey on July 17, 2009 | Comments (8)

In response to: RWA: Death By Chocolate Peter commented: I really liked this book. My book; www.eloquentbooks.com/TrueLoveIsNotCommon.html, has similar main characters. I grew up reading this author, and hope one day my book will reach many readers as this author.
