Your Turn 16
October 12, 2007

These Fridays seem to come faster and faster.  Of course on Monday it doesn't seem that way, but it's time once again to talk about what we're reading.

First off, I owe a big apology to Cathie Linz.  I've been meaning to write about her new book Big Girls Don't Cry, which came out this month and it totally got lost in the shuffle.  Then her emails to me got bounced to my spam mail (even though she's in my address book).  Cathie is a terrific person and author who has devoted herself to the industry, so know that Monday will be all about Cathie.  Be sure to tune in.

On to the ones I did  manage to read.  My book this week was Lover Unbound by J. R. Ward.  This is book five in the Black Dagger Brotherhood saga.  Vishous has a cursed hand that can kill on contact and the ability to see into the future.  He's a tortured soul that was abused as a child.  He has no feelings of normalacy until he meets Dr. Jane Whitcomb, human surgeon.  I've been a fan of the Brotherhood since the first book, but be warned, this is a dark look into their history and destiny and Vishous' sexual nature may be extreme to some.  On the whole, fans of J. R. will eagerly await the next installment.

In my car I'm listening to Force of Nature by Suzanne Brockmann.  This is the latest in her Troubleshooters  series.  Ric Alvarado is a PI and an ex-cop.  His assistant is Annie Dugan sister of his childhood friend, but isn't happy in her role as receptionist and would prefer to work in the field with Ric.  They inadvertantly get involved with crimelord George Burns, but the FBI was there first.  Enter Jules Cassidy, FBI second in command who's going undercover but runs into Robin Chadwick, action movie star who he met 2 years ago and hasn't been able to forget.  Suzanne's books always grab and don't let go.   Her characters are so arresting that I think about the book long after I've finished it.   (As a matter of fact I read the book when it first came out, but the audio is amazing with the male/female readers pulling you deep into the story).  I love Jules.

So, what have you been reading or are reading right this minute??

Bottom line:  Time to charge the iPod so I can listen to some good books again.

Now you make want to get Suzanne's book. *grin* I was boycotting because I want military not cops. Sound silly when I type it. One of the reasons I her loved Suzanne's books is she gave me a glimpse into WWII and made me want to explore more. I know some fans didn't like it, but I loved it. Can't wait for Sohpia's book and ALWAYS want more Sam. What am I reading at this minute... hmmm Trying to decide on a new book! So many choices and never enough time.

I just got an ARC of Ariana Franklin's next medieval mystery, "The Serpent's Tale," which continues the adventures of the heroine from "Mistress of the Art of Death." I am SO PSYCHED! - Clea (www.cleasimon.com)

I'm reading Eve Silver's DEMON'S KISS on my Palm, LOLITA in a hard copy, and I just finished editing HIGHLANDER EVER AFTER by Jennifer Ashley (April 2008).

Okay, it's not Friday anymore, and it did fly by, but I wanted to stick this in here. I got a copy Soul Song by Marjorie M Liu when it first came out, but decided to just savor the anticipation and wait to read it. And to look at that pretty cover. So I just finished it, and it's just as good as I wanted it to be.

Better late than never? :) Reading: The Book of True Desires by Betina Krahn (this has been on my TBR pile for forever, obviously). On the iPod: Killing Time by Linda Howard. I am VERY jealous of Clea.

Ok, I'm jealous of everyone who has the books I don't. It's just not fair to wait until April for Jennifer's book because anything with Highlander in the title belongs on my bookcase. I haven't read Ariana Franklin or Eve Silver, but they are now on my wish list. The rest I read and loved. BTW, you don't have to just post on Friday. That's just the day I do. This blog is a 24/7 service.

I've been on the road a lot the past six days or so. I have been listening to Two Little Girls in Blue by Mary Higgins Clark.
