Enchanted
December 3, 2007

You know, I thought I got it out of my system by writing about the new Disney movie Enchanted on my MySpace blog, but I was wrong.  It has been a long time since I've been so captivated by a movie that I wanted to see it twice...in one day (the last time was Grease and we did stay at the theater to watch it a second time.  Unfortunately, I'd left my headlights on in my car and had a dead battery when I came out).

Enchanted follows an animated Giselle who, with all her forest creature friends, spends her days singing and wishing for true love's kiss.  Prince Edward is sick of hunting trolls and hears her alluring song.  Of course, there is an evil stepmother trying to stop the happy union by banishing our fair maiden into the cynical real world of New York City.

Seeing the animation come to life with all the mannerisms and speech patterns of the cartoon world is nothing short of delightful.  And the musical number in Central Park will have even the most curmudgeon of movie goers humming along and tapping their feet (I did both).

All night I thought about what it was that made me feel so good about seeing this movie and I discovered it was the same thing that makes me enjoy a good book...a good story with a happy ending.  There was a heroine and hero worth cheering for, adversity, comedic relief, inside jokes and a battle with good triumphing evil.  All is well in my world.

Bottom Line:  Blatant hint for my Christmas gift...movie tickets, Enchanted dvd and soundtrack (Central Park not included).

Ever since I saw the trailer, I wanted to see it. There are not many movies that I want to see on the big screen, but this one is calling to me. I got movie tickets waiting for moments like this. I will be heading to the movie theatre this weekend.

I went to see this yesterday and when the movie ended, everyone just sat there and watched all the credits (I think just listening to the music). It was refreshing to come out of a movie feeling good and you're right, that's just how I like my books.

Thanks, Barb. I will have to make time for this movie! It caught my attention when I first saw or heard the ad on tv. And I'm coming off a weekend where I 1)finished my HEA book (finally!) and 2) saw the Disney on Ice Princess Classics show twice with my 6 year-old neice. So, maybe I am feeling a bit...whimsical, giddy and ever-hopeful!!! Now, I look forward to continuing these feelings with Enchanted!

I totally agree with you. I live in New York and my sister lives in Rhode Island, and every year we meet midway for Christmas shopping and a feel-good movie. I basically steamrolled her into seeing Enchanted with me, and we both loved it. At the end, the whole theater burst into applause. I love when that happens. I left the cinema still singing along to the music.

I'm sure glad I have an eight-year-old daughter. I might not have gone to see Enchanted otherwise. We went over Thanksgiving and I was, well, enchanted! Mark David Gerson www.markdavidgerson.com

Without spoiling anything, I think my favorite scene was a muscial number starring some of the finest examples of NYC's wildlife. LOL!! A feel good movie you can take your kids to and still be amused... When was the last time there was one of those around?

I saw Enchanted over the weekend. I'm with you Barb, it was terrific. I think the secret appeal is that it's such a positive movie. Giselle remains in such positive good spirits and expects the best from everyone. She believes so strongly in the power of love and is so sad for those who don't have it. Genuinely. Our world bombards us with violent, hateful, and negative images and messages. Enchanted is the opposite of that garbage. It reminds us that it's OK to be positive, in fact, it's REALISTIC to be positive. Amy (visit me at wozabooks)

We went yesterday to see it and I am totally in love with it! I will definately own it when it comes out on DVD. I agree that it is a postive movie. And I'm always a sucker for Happily Ever After. (Uh oh! Did I just give the ending away?LOL)

I couldn't agree more with you and the comments so far. We went yesterday and loved it. I love happy endings and this was defintely a movie I would own. I had the same feeling as I did after I saw Ever After with Drew Barrymore.

Did you see Stardust? (Neil Gaiman) Such a perfectly written and wonderfully executed story.

I liked it (and wrote about it on my blog, agentinthemiddle.blogspot.com), but I think it could have been much funnier if it hadn't taken itself so traditionally. I guess I was looking for more chick lit and less Disney.
