WW Ladies Book Blurbs
May 14, 2008
The WW Ladies have been very busy, so starting next week their book blurbs will be on Wednesday and Saturday. We'll try to get as many books as possible written about, but you can help by posting a comment and letting everyone know your feelings on the books/authors mentioned.

Where the Heart Leads by Stephanie Laurens
Read by Emily
Penelope Ashford is a wealthy and genteel young woman. But no other lady of her acquaintance tries to right the wrongs that society makes. She has chosen to help the orphans of London, but over the past few weeks, orphans all over town have been disappearing. She needs the help from Barnaby Adair. He has connections all over London, and she figured that he would be able to discover what’s happening to these children. They enlist the help of an inspector from Scotland Yard, but what they find is not what they expect. And in the process the pair discovers a passion that has no end.
Where the Heart Leads may be the 15th novel in the Cynster Series by Stephanie Laurens, but it is a category in and of itself. The passion between the pair was like an ever increasing flame. Plus the mystery of the missing children all adds up to an amazing book. I highly recommend any of Stephanie Laurens books, but especially Where the Heart Leads.
Armed & Magical by
Lisa Shearin
Read by Joyce
Raine Benares is an elf with a talent as a "seeker", which means she makes her living by finding things, or people, usually for a fee, not always scrupulously. Having found an ancient and powerfully magic stone bonded to her through a stolen amulet, Raine and her friends must prevent it from being used by evil mages.
Again, I judged a book by its cover...a delightful cover that caught my eye with its appearance of magical innocence. Along with its predecessor,
Magic Lost, Trouble Found, Lisa Shearin tells a fairly simple story that matches the bookcovers - delightful, charming, humorous and fun, with just a hint of romantic heat. Both books have been a pleasure to read.
Now You See Him by
Eli Gottlieb
Read by Loretta
An enticing book - instead of ending with the murderer being apprehended, this book begins with a murder-suicide and delves into the why and how. The prose is delicious and reading it is a distinct pleasure in itself...almost like dipping into a bowl of mashed potatoes and gravy and being unable to stop until the last mouthful is gone.
Eli Gottlieb is a master of our language and it is a joy to revel in this novel and it's startling ending.
Pearl's Redemption by
C. H. Admirand
Read by Jan
The Committee for the Betterment of Emerson County, Colorado, voted 10-2 to sell The Ranch -- ONLY they neglected to tell the owner, Pearl and her 'upstairs girls'. When the new owner from out East, Boston way, shows up he is met with the barrel of a rifle aimed right at him. More than bullets fly between them and they join forces to discover who is behind the illegal sell and subsequent attempts on their lives.
This is the third book in a series of Irish Westerns, a "fast-paced historical romance" taking place in the 1870's Colorado Territory.
Ghost Moon by
Rebecca York
Read by Kathryn
Ghost Moon is part paranormal and part time-travel all wrapped up in one romantic story about an extended family of werewolves. Caleb Marshall's spirit never left the woods where he died in a frivolous dual. After many years he manages to communicate with someone, a woman psychic named Quinn. Together they face obstacles and enemies that endanger their friends, family, and the nation.
I found
Ghost Moon to be a very exciting and wild read.
At The Bride Hunt Ball by
Olivia Parker
Read by Karen
Gabriel Devine, Duke of Wolverest, has no intention of getting married. He saw what a loveless marriage did to his mother, and vowed to never put another woman through that. Instead, he has invited seven eligible young ladies to a house party so his younger brother can choose a bride from the group. Madelyn Haywood, a high-spirited yet perennially clumsy young woman has no intention of marrying someone she doesn’t love. She is appalled when she receives one of the seven coveted invitations, but is coerced into going by her socially ambitious stepmother.
The lemons – and the sparks – start to fly after Gabriel finds himself drawn to this outspoken woman with the hair that just won’t stay in its proper place. Madelyn is torn between wanting to keep her shy friend away from the callow younger brother, and wanting to discover why the duke stops her breathing whenever he is around. But will they each realize what they truly need, or will their differing viewpoints always keep them apart?
This story sparkled, and the characters were endearing in their fumbling attempts to protect their hearts from the inevitable. I hope to read more works from this debut author.
Strike Zone by Kate Angell
Read by Emily
After leaving her fiancée, Richmond Rogues pitcher Brek Stryker at the alter three years ago, adventure seeker Taylor Hannah is back. Back just in time to see her ex walk down the aisle with another woman. Her adventurous spirit is what cost her chances with the love of her life, but now that she’s back she’s pulling out all the stops to claim Brek’s heart once more. But Taylor isn’t the only one with a romance up to bat. Her sister Eve has caught the attention of relief pitcher Sloan McCaffrey. He’s a playboy, who never goes past the third date, and she’s an artist, who’s scared of just about everything, but their differences are what drive them together. Both couples have challenges ahead, but will true love prevail?
Strike Zone is Kate Angell’s third Richmond Rogues baseball book. Even if you’re not a fan of baseball, after reading these books you will definitely be singing a different tune. I had been looking forward to reading this book, and believe me when I say Kate Angell has smacked one out of the park with Strike Zone.
Bottom Line: Today is Root Canal Appreciation Day...ironically, tomorrow is National Chocolate Chip Day. So, root canal today, eat cookies tomorrow and need another root canal...
