I've got to tell you that yesterday was one of my best Mother's Days ever! Andrew picked me up and took me to this new theater where you can buy your tickets online and actually pick out your seats ahead of time. And we saw Star Trek which was freaking awesome!!! 4 big fat thumbs up!!! I want to go again. Then you get free popcorn, a full bar that served Mimosas to Moms and then free bowling for Moms and free bowling with the movie ticket. A one-stop fun center. They also served food, but we chose not to partake. I was too busy beating Andrew's butt at bowling even though I hadn't bowled in over 1l years. Oh, and I got a rose from the bartender who could have been on the cover of one of the books I read. Now over Memorial Weekend I'll get to celebrate all over gain when I go to St. Louis to visit my other son and his family. Then to top it off, I got a call from my unofficial #3 son, Dan. Yes, it was a very good day. Now, here's the news I heard this week: From author Elizabeth Hoyt: I'm writing a free novella for my readers in 2009. Every month I'll be posting a new chapter to read through December. From Karen Tintori, Novelists, Inc.: NOVELISTS INC SLASHES CONFERENCE FEE BY HALF FOR FIRST 100 REGISTRANTS. Recognizing the impact these tough economic times have on writers, the board of Novelists Inc. (Ninc), has announced its own version of an economic recovery stimulus package. Ninc Goes Platinum; Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence, has halved the registration fee for members. Once one hundred spots are filled, Ninc will continue accepting registrations at a reduced rate. From Anna Klassmann De Souza, Netflix: The economy has everyone down, but don't let it affect your summer reading material. This Summer '09 BookSwim, the Netflix for books (online book rental), is offering one month free for summer reading. "Swimmers" can enter the code "SUMMER09" at checkout for one month free as part of a three month summer subscription to BookSwim. Yana Walton: While the publishing industry grapples with enormous challenges, Open Book, a new national television and multimedia program premiering May 11th on Link TV, aims to cast new light on books and writers globally. Created and hosted by Ina Howard-Parker, an experienced book publicist and editor, and directed by Diane Paragas, an award-winning documentary and commercial filmmaker, Open Book is a new half-hour weekly television program about books and writers focusing on the contemporary and historical literary production in a different spot on the planet each week. (I did talk to Yana and she assured me that romance would be represented. Since I don't get cable, someone let me know that they follow through on this.) The pilot airs next week (May 11 and 13), focusing on Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and here is a link's to the release where you can see clips of the pilot. From Me: On Twitter, I asked "If @perfumesMKE is now following me, does that mean they may consider naming a perfume after me?" Their response: "@barbaravey I am sure we can name a perfume after you too as long as it sells :)" I heart Twitter.
