Sunday Kaffee Klatch
October 2, 2007

Sunday morning started with the Bookseller Kaffee Klatch.   There were several large round tables set up and 3-4 authors placed their goodies on each table.  Then each bookseller was given a blank canvas bag and a sharpie to use to have authors sign their bags.  The bags were used to fill with all the books and promo items brought by the authors.  There were also tables set up around the room filled with books and other great giveaways.  My bag was bulging in no time and I needed two more.  I am absolutely pathetic when it comes to this stuff.

At my table was Rita Herron, Raven Hart and Jennifer LaBrecque.  Jennifer, who writes NASCAR books, gave bottles of hot sauce with her label.  Along with Raven's book, she gave the most adorable giant bookmarks that clip to the pages.  Rita had a white bag with her book and a cute little flashlight. (They are holding their giveaways...sorry, checkered flags not included)

Rounding out our group were Tina Trevaskis and Sue Grimshaw from Borders Books (pictured on the right with author Stephanie Bond).  These Border women know absolutely everything about romance.

Linda Howard spoke again this morning, but no cows.  These were stories about her beloved golden retrievers and how she had to buy a bigger mattress because she kept waking up with her head on the nightstand after being pushed over by her dogs.  This turned into another complicated, hilarious story that involved a leaking refridgerator, removal of a wall and a black panther.  Her son summed it up by saying, "You couldn't make up this s**t."  It only goes to show why Linda is a master storyteller.

I also got to meet Tracy Clark (sister of author Jennifer St. Giles) from the Between Your Sheets website which promises to be "for those with a passion for books."  She's the blond (pictured) giving a gift basket to a lucky winner (who, once again, was not me).

The conference was coming to an end and again I underestimated the "stuff" I would end up with.  Once again Dianna Love Snell came to my rescue.  She managed to get a huge box, pack it for me and promise to send it off for me.

I lucked out meeting Tina Trevaskis (Borders Books) from Madison, so we ended up flying out together and she amazed me by guessing what the other passengers were reading just from the bookcover colors...very impressive.  Then to top it off we got to sit next to each other on the plane and I learned more than I ever thought went into the selling and placement of books in bookstores.  I will be looking at this in a whole new way the next time I visit a bookstore.

All in all, an amazing weekend with incredibly talented, entertaining women.  I would highly recommend the Moonlight and Magnolias Conference to anyone looking for a fun, informative weekend in an invigorating environment.

Bottom Line:
Most photogenic author award goes to: Jacquie D'Alessandro, who I kidded because she made it into my blog pictures 3 times.  But who could resist her and her handsome hubby and good looking talented son who is also writing a book.

OMG I looks like you had a terrific time, Barb. I'm so jealous. There are just so many conferences I can make and I'm afraid M&M is not one of them. The photos are great.

Well Ember, I took about 300 business cards and just about used them up. I'm not sure how many new authors I met, but I'm happy to say that I hope to read them all and many talented unpublished authors. Liz, you would have loved it, maybe next year.

Fantastic coverage of the conference Barb. I'm sure everybody reading either felt like they were there themselves or wanted to be there! Huge thanks for being one fabulous woman who can get the word of authors and their books out to so many

Hey, if I had given away those checkered flags, I wouldn't have been able to go home. LOL! They're my daughter's from her trips to the dirt track with her dad. I had to *beg* to borrow them for the weekend. :)
