National Bookstore Day

November 7, 2009

Today is National Book Store Day.

From PW:  More than 100 bookstores across the country are planning to participate in the PW-sponsored event National Bookstore Day this Saturday, November 7. Event organizers are hoping promotions tied to the day will attract local and national media coverage—and, in turn, draw new customers into bookstores. “The number of stores already signed up meets our rosiest hopes for this first year. Many of the stores celebrating National Bookstore Day are recognized nationally as leaders, so we're gratified that this idea has been endorsed by these savvy booksellers,” said Ron Shank, PW group publisher. Among the offerings that bookstores are planning are author signings, children's activities, discounts, extended hours, free refreshments, marathon “read-aloud” events, raffles and writing contests.  (See the rest of the article here)

And don't forget to vote on Friday's blog for your favorite book(s) of 2009.  (Limit of 3 please).  You have until Wednesday and the results will be in Thursday's blog.
Bottom Line:
Now you have another great reason to go out and visit a book store today...like you really needed an excuse.

I had my first signing today for THE GIFT (November) at Beth Anne's Book Corner www.bethannesbookcorner.com in Colorado Springs. She said she sold 98 copies of my book. I'd say that's a decent way to celebrate the launch of my new release, and to recognize a wonderful, dedicated bookseller who really loves what she does--and it shows.

Thank you Barbara for this idea--I was at a bookstore on Sat. by coincidence--so it was nice to read your blog earlier & comment about it now.
