Big Girls Write Books
October 15, 2007

Cathie Linz has been an author for over 20 years and an avid reader forever.  I had breakfast with Cathie one morning during her busy schedule at the RWA (Romance Writers of America) conference. (

BV:  I was fortunate enough to attend the Librarian's Day event that RWA holds every year and I hear that you're the one responsible for it.

CL:  I founded the program 18 years ago and have
been a liason for 14.  Earlier in my career I worked in a University Law Library and I have a great appreciation for librarians.

BV:  I hear you've had a few other careers.

CL:  I did write a column for Romantic Times Magazine.  Then I started an online book group and would put up 5 reviews a week.

BV:  Have you always wanted to write?

CL:  In 3rd grade there was a knowledge fair and I wrote a book called Mexico and Me.  I typed it all and it placed 2nd.  I think that did it for me.

BV:  Author's have different ways of writing.  What helps you?

CL:  I have an office at home and I need a view.  You know, woods, streams, ducks <grins>.  I write character driven books.  For me it's like taking dictation, I hear the characters.  If only I could teach the characters to type, I'd just have to edit it in the morning.

BV:  A few months ago I picked up Good Girls Do just because I loved the cover.

CL:  Oh, my librarian on a Harley.  I loved the cover too.

BV:  What's up next for you?

CL:  My new book, Big Girls Don't Cry, a contempory romance, is out now.

BV:  Any final thoughts?

CL:  If anyone ever hassles you about reading romance, just say you're reading the most popular fiction on the planet.

Bottom Line:
I always knew I was reading great stuff, I just didn't know it was the most popular on the planet.

Good morning Barb! I'm on the list for Elizabeth Edwards' book "Saving Graces" & John Grisham's book "The Innocent Man" at my library--about all I can squeeze in with work & caretaking my parents! Thanks for your suggestions--"Good Girls Do" by Cathie Linz was great!

Great interview Bara...I have read several of Cathie Linz's book and finished BIG GIRLS last night...laughted the whole way through it. She is just great and making 'funny' come together with romance! It is one that will stay on my book shelf (along with the 2 others in the series) for a long time to come!
