Important February Birthday (and it's not a President)
February 11, 2008

Today is a very special day. It's my Mom's 78th birthday and really, without her, where would I be? She's a mother of 9, Grandmother of 22 and Great-Grandma of 19. Through my Mom, I have discovered my love of books and she still can read me under the table. So, Happy Birthday Mom, you're the best!!
Now on to what's going on. If you have any noteworthy news, kudos or high fives to be given,
send me an email.
From
Kristen Painter: In
Babe King's first novel,
Between the Gutter and the Sky, "Dr. Jaclyn Donnel will fight anything to fix the inefficient health care system that let her father die. When charismatic youth worker, Sam Allen's expensive new rescue program threatens her under-funded ER, they're bound to butt heads." According to Babe: "Given the subject matter of Gutter, as the book is affectionately known, it seemed natural to dedicate half my share of each sale to the work of Gran’s Van, a local mobile soup kitchen that caters to the homeless."
Which Kristen tells me is "kind of an Australian version of meals on wheels." Well done Babe!
Deborah MacGillivray let me know that
Dawn Thompson passed away Friday around 2pm. She was 73. Deborah says, "She went peacefully, life finally granting her that single blessing when it had taken so much more from her. There were no last words from her because she was on a respirator. However, the last time she spoke to me she said, "Please do not forget me."
All I can say is I lost someone who was like a second mother to me. She was so good, so smart and always laughed. Dawn was totally confined to a wheelchair for the last ten years. Yet she was always laughing. She had few friends, but me and Miz Fuzz, her kitty.
The world lost one of the best and brightest with her passing. Please, don't forget her."
Luckily, with all the wonderful books by Dawn, we won't likely forget.
And, here we are, well into February of our healthier you year. These words of encouragement from author
Gerri Russell: "Have you ever felt frustrated with your weight loss efforts?
We’ve all had days where we feel like nothing goes our way.
Where there are constant interruptions to our goals.
Or temptation is too strong, and we feel too weak to resist.
Does that mean we throw in the towel and quit?
Decide you didn’t really want that goal in the first place?
Frustration can also be a sign we need to push a little harder. Sometimes all it takes is a deep breath and a new plan to get where you want to go. Focus on how good you’ll feel when you achieve your dreams, and never give up on yourself. You can do it!"

My tip is from Bob Harper, trainer of The Biggest Loser: "If it grows out of the ground, or you can pick it off a tree, chances are that it's good for you." (Although, personally, I'd be careful of things that have landed or crawled into trees, but probably that's not what Bob meant.)
The first winner of a Subway gift card is MG Braden (thanks Mom for picking the winner). Please email me your snail mail address so I can send you the card. All you have to do to be entered is to post a comment and another name will be drawn next month.
Tomorrow, special guest Margie Lawson who describes herself as a "counseling psychologist who’s been a college professor, workshop presenter, keynote speaker, clinical trainer, sex therapist, director of an Impotence Clinic, hypnotherapist, and writer." You won't want to miss this.
Bottom Line: Wish us luck...Breakfast Bingo with Mom (and family) at the casino.
