Monday's News on Wednesday
September 3, 2008

Well, I think I'm officially slept out. I'm relieved to hear that Gustav didn't do nearly the damage that was expected and now Hannah is on it's way to Florida. One of Heather Graham's last words to me was, "Thank goodness they didn't name it Heather!" After just experiencing a taste of
Heather's Writers for New Orleans retreat (with all proceeds going back into the city), Heather promises next year's event to be bigger and better than ever. I have no doubt that's what will happen. Save the date for next year.
Since I missed Monday's news day, I thought I'd share a few items I've received.

From author
Shiloh Walker: I've signed up to help with the CF fundraiser, Unleash Your Story.
Shiloh's link to her CF page. And from the CF site:
What is Unleash Your Story?
A combined read-a-thon and write-a-thon that challenges readers, writers and published authors to unleash their stories and make a difference. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the leading organization in the United States devoted to cystic fibrosis.
Register individually or as a team now at our Unleash Your Story Event Page.
This event is all about raising money to fight cystic fibrosis by supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Along the way we hope to have some fun and help a lot of people set and reach their reading and writing goals.
(I'm sure there's many authors involved, so feel free to add your name to the comments sections so people can sponsor you).
From Leah Hultenschmidt, editor at Dorchester: Because Chris Keeslar is so shy and modest <snort>, he probably hasn't mentioned that the New York City chapter of RWA named him Editor of the Year. He'll be honored at the Golden Apple Award on Sept. 18, along with Suzanne Brockmann (Lifetime Achievement), Dee Davis (Author of the Year), Deidre Knight (Agent of the Year) and several others. We're all pretty psyched for him! (Congrats to all the winners!)
Leah also mentioned that she started something new: I've been working on a little venture of my own. At RWA, I heard a lot from reviewers and librarians asking about how they could get info on upcoming titles, so I wanted to give them a place to go to find that out. It doesn't cover all our titles; we have a company site for that. But I'm hoping it will be helpful for romance readers to keep track of their Dorchester favorites and possibly try out new authors, and for folks in the industry to see what we have on tap and get a little of an editor's perspective. If you know of anyone interested in the info, please pass on the link.
(Lots of interesting tidbits into an editor's day and what's coming up, so I'm happy to pass on this link).

| Megan, me and Kwana at RWA |
From author
Kwana Jackson: It was wonderful to meet you in San Francisco at the NAL party. Thanks so much for sharing with me your inspirational Weight Watchers story. You'll be happy to know that after months of not attending I went back to a meeting and got weighed in today. Thanks so much for the push and I'll let you know how I progress.
(Kwana, I'm so proud of you and I'll be watching for those updates)

| And finally from our own WW book blurber Jan, who explains that we've obviously been using the scale wrong all these years. |
Bottom Line: I'm off to buy this new scale.
