Your Turn 7
July 20, 2007

Well, we missed Friday the 13th with me doing Dallas.  But we're back this week with your turn to tell all what you've been reading this week (or last).  Because of seniority, I get to go first.

This is kind of tough with so many books to choose from but I've got 2.  First up is Ghosts and Roses by Kelley St. John.  This is a Harlequin Blaze book and I have to admit I've generally skipped these because they are skinny (what a snob, hey?).  But I was pleasantly surprised.  This story is about a family of mediums that help ghosts cross over by helping them finish something.  Gage Vicknair needs to rescue Makayla from a vengeful murderer.  I started this book at the airport and finished it by the time I got home.  It really made the time fly (groan).  I will definitely be reading more of these.

The second book is Devil May Cry by Sherrilyn Kenyon.  This continuing Dark-Hunter series features Sin, an ex-God and Katra, daughter of a godess, who is sent to kill him.  I absolutely could not put this book down.  Sherrilyn nailed this one with her tightly woven story rich with mythology and characters that made my heart ache.  Positively, this is going in my reread pile.  Devil May Cry will be out in August.

In my car I am listening to Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.  Taking place in 1929, it is the story of a nine year old girl, sold into slavery and trained as a Geisha.  I know some people loved this book, but it was too sad for me.  Now if she would have grown up to build a society that trained all the men to entertain and perform tasks for the benefit of women, I might have a different opinion of this book.

On my iPod I have A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton.  This is the first book in the Kinsey Millhone series and even though I've read all the books, I wanted to go back and listen it.  Kinsey is a tough private detective, hired by a woman who is out on parole from a conviction of murdering her husband, to follow a trail leading to the real killer.  A mystery that keeps you guessing.

Bottom Line:  It's been 2 weeks, so you should have lots of books to talk about.

I've only read 3 books recently -- The Prince's Ultimate Deception by Emilie Rose, The Man Who Had Everything by Christine Rimmer and The CEO's Scandalous Affair by Roxanne St. Claire. I love the skinny books. What a lazy bum, hey? *grin* Since I'd like to submit one day to Harlequin/Silhouette, I read a LOT of them because you should be very familiar with the line you are submitting to. Next on the pile is Entertaining Mr. Stone by Portia DaCosta. It's from Black Lace books. Should be a hot read.

I've gotten more reading done then normal, thanks to sitting in doc's offices! I have read the 1st of Harlan Coben's Myron Boliter series, Deal Breaker. I have the next 3 on order right now. Next I read Anne Stuarts' "ICE" series...all three. Loved them too. Right now I am on Heather Lowell's (Elizabeth Lowell's daughter) No Escape. I have two orders of books coming in this week, so I sould be busy.

Hi Barb! I'm reading Beware The Scot's Revenge by Sabrina Jeffries. It's great but Sabrina has introduced us to two characters Charlotte and Cousin Michael who I am pretty sure are going to end up together in one of her future books. It's really hard not knowing when she will write it but I'm crossing fingers! LOL...

I have to start on one of my book club's picks tonight (Devil Wears Prada) since we will be discussing it in 2 days. This is just so rough on me right now, I want to dive into my stack of books that I got at RWA... Hopefully, TDWP will be a fast read and I can step back in time soon with a regency romance. I'm glad to see someone posting above about Sabrina Jeffries. I didn't get any of her books but she gave out bookmarks that unfolded so you could read part of one of her books and I want to see if she is as great all the way through the book as that snippet was. It's a great idea for a bookmark. I became THE bookmark queen at RWA and that one was one of the best ones I got. I know that author's name now - very effective. A lot of them had great imagery or nice little beaded strings hanging off of them, etc. but the foldout book mark with the excerpt was terrific. Happy reading to all, Jenne

Hello Barbara! Thanks for mentioning the Sue Grafton series! I have read them all, being close to my heart & profession! I have yet to tackle the Harry Potter series, but family members are salivating over them!

Hello Barbara! Don't know if my previous comment went thru, but just wanted to mention that I forgot to thank you for reminding me (& all) to reread "Memoirs of a Geisha" that you are reading now (or listening to). Thanks--I know our tastes may vary as to books/movies, but sometimes they do converge! Keep up the good work!
