Shelfari...what's next??
October 10, 2007

As if joiningMySpace wasn't enough, thanks to Shari Anton, I now belong to Shelfari.  What the heck is this now??  Well, Shelfari is a website to keep track of the books you've read and by inviting friends, you can see if you've read the same books and check out their sites to see what they've been reading.

I know there are probably lots of sites out there devoted to this, but since she was willing to show me how to use it (a big plus in getting me to try anything new), I gave it a gander.  Once you sign up and they ask for your email address, it pulls up all people listed in your address book, but the cool thing is that it will separate them into those who do and don't belong to Shelfari.  This way you already know who to invite to join your group because they already know what the heck you're talking about.

Once in, all you have to do is type in an author and it will pull up all the books they've written.  Then you click what you've read and voila, you have your bookshelf filled.  Of course, I figure this step will take me a while due to the number of books I read.

So, if you're into keeping track of things, you may want to try this or you may have another site you really like let me know.  Otherwise, feel free to join me at Shelfari and see what we have in common.  And a shout out to my first 6 friends to join me:  Shari Anton, Lisa Plumley, Berta Platas, Clea Simon, Jade Lee and C.L. , Wilson (boy, you guys are fast).

Bottom Line:  I am not joining anything new for the next month, so don't ask me....unless it's really cool and you show me how to do it.

LOL!!! Well, it helped that we both had too much Hazelnut flavored coffee. Like we both needed the caffine for a buzz ;). Like Barbara needed a Push into signing up for a site that deals with Books! Okay, I'll take the blame :).

I totally LOVE Shelfari, because I used to try to keep track of my teetering To Be Read piles in a notebook, now tossed away as a Useless Enterprise. Plus, you get to review the books you read and share with friends. I wasn't surprised to see your invite Barbara, since you're the queen of book sharing.

Thanks for inviting me, Barbara! Now I have ANOTHER reason to procrastinate -- and I'm theoretically drafting this new book before "Cries and Whiskers" comes out in December and I'm too busy to breathe. Ah well, we all need some time with our buddies, right? (I still have to figure out the address book thingy, but I've been loading my shelf.) See you in the cyberworld! - Clea (www.cleasimon.com)

Oh, I've never heard of this...I'm so happy that I popped in to read your blog today, Barb....don't know when I'll get signed up for it, but I'm definitely going to do this! Thanks!

I have been looking for a way to keep track of my books since I caught myself buying books I already read. I'll have to try this site. Thanks.

What will I do with my beautiful LibraryThing? I'll be looking into Shelfari though. Thanks for more good ideas, Barb.

Okay, not surprising that I'd never heard of this but it sounds VERY cool. When I get off deadline I think I'm going to have to look into this.

I've resisted Shelfari. I've had a dozen or more invites, but I just don't want to have to keep up with something else. But it is a neat concept.

I've had a few invites to Shelfari, but haven't had a chance to explore it. And I will friend you on MySpace if I ever get my account unlocked. (What I did to lock it, I'll never know. But I can't get in...)

I cannot join shelfari. I don't need anymore distractions. All these sparkly shiny fun internet things are keeping me from my writing...and I have a deadline! So stop tempting me.

Ok, I admit that I fought joining this, but It's surprising easy and I finally can see what I've read and they even have a wish list (which I haven't gotten to yet). So, I don't even have half my books listed yet, but I plan to do 25 a day until I get done. If you notice that I missed your book, let me know and I'll put it on the list or read it if I haven't. It really doesn't take as long as I thought, so when you're ready, come on over.

I'm trying to resist this one. I know ... resistent is futile and I'll no doubt give in sooner or later. But this is one more time suck that I'm trying to avoid.
